If you are looking for something that will stay on a pumpkin homemade paint probably isn't going to work. All of the types I have ever used are more finger paint style and it will wipe off easily. If your on only concern is safety would just go with a non-toxic Crayola paint. If you don't care whether the paint wipes off the pumpkin, my favorite homemade paint is cornstarch and water cooked together.

I've heard good things about cornstarch water and food coloring

in school we always used tempra paint we would actually mix it with baby lotion to make face paint

Our family has a pumpkin carving competition every year and I would like DS (18 mo) to be able to participate by painting his pumpkin. I'm looking for a paint recipe that I can make at home. Any ideas?
