We have lots of options just because of location. We chose the one in our little suburb town. It's in a church, but not church based. It's not tied to any particular style, though the teacher has a Montessori background. We were definitely NOT looking for academic rigor in a preschool, but rather safety, convenience, and fun. It's 2 days/week, 4 hours each day.

Mostly our options are church based or part of a pricey private school. There is one that is associated with the public school system and supposedly amazing but it's very expensive and there is one that is mediocre at a community center that is well priced.

Our options are 1) insanely expensive or 2) church-based. We are not particularly religious or rich, so it's been frustrating.

We are fortunate to live in an area with a ton of options: play-based, Montessori, Waldorf, Reggio Emilia, church-based, you name it, and they usually accept children around 2.5, sometimes younger. However, we moved here from Oklahoma, and in our town there, there were only daycare or parents' day out type programs for children under 4.

Most preschools in our area are church based. We wanted to send her to a public preschool, and I could only find two. One I wasn't crazy about (and they only took kids 3+), and the second we fell in love with. Their two year old program is 2x/wk for 2ish hours.

No preschools in my area accept kids younger than 2 years, 9 months. Younger than that, daycare is the only option. In terms of types once you hit 2.9, there are tons! Catholic, Jewish, ones that are affiliated with colleges, independent schools, YMCA, nature centers, farm based ones, Montessori, Waldorf, co-operative, etc!

@Andrea: How old was your LO when she started Montessori? There are two in our area that won't accept anyone younger than 3. :(

I think we're going to be enrolling our 2.5 year old in preschool starting this fall (eek!). Ideally, I would like her to go twice a week for 2 to 2.5 hours.

We wanted to send her to a Montessori preschool, but unfortunately, they don't accept children under age 3 (she will be 2.5 in September). The larger centers seem to operate more like daycares - I would have to pay for a full day even if I only want to keep her there for a couple hours, and it seems like there's no real curriculum.

It looks like most of the morning preschools in our area are run by churches. We're Christian and churchgoers, so totally fine with us, but I was surprised that there weren't more options available.

Just curious what sort of part-time preschool options are available in your area?
