I have pretty sensitive, acne prone skin (not a lot but deep blemishes that take forever to clear up) and I find that oil washes actually help my skin. It feels weird but other face washes strip my skin of natural oils and I break out more.

I use Burts Bees oil wash, Roc daily moisterizer and Orgins nightamins every night. When I stick to the routine, I see a big difference.

If I have a bad blemish, I use Murad Ance Spot fix. Spendy but amazing.

I also use the oil cleansing method. I used to have terrible cystic acne and once I started this, not cleared up and now I hardly ever get pimples. I use a blend of 3:1 pumpkin seed oil and tamanu oil. I found this website exceptionally informative and helpful. http://www.minimalistbeauty.com/high-linoleic-oils-microfiber-cloths-my-daily-skin-care/

Also, it sounds super strange, but I stopped drinking anything that comes in plastic bottles and I swear it made a huge difference!

I have struggled with acne my whole life, but found a big improvement after my dermatologist recommended a cleanser called keracnyl foaming gel from a company called ducray. He also recommended this product instead of a moisturizer (I have very oily/combination skin) which you just spritz on after washing. I also only wash my face at night and just splash with lukewarm water in the morning. You are basically using your natural facial oils to moisturize your face instead of creams which block your pores. It takes a week or so for your face to adjust but I found it worked really well to treat my acne.

I have tried all sorts of things, but about a year ago switched to eminence products and I love love love love them.

I use an exfoliator, a toner, cleanser, night serum and I have a tinted moisturizer for day. Overall they are great!

@Mrs D: I've liked the Chanel products I've tried too. Love their foundation, but not cheap! Interesting to hear a derm pharma rep likes them too - maybe I'll have to check more out!

I've been using the Yes To Tomatoes line for awhile now and really like it. I definitely don't break out as much as I used to in high school/college, but my skin is still oily. I really like the daily cleanser wash and the face lotion. It's budget friendly (can find on sale at Target sometimes or the Yes To website always has sale codes). Not completely natural, but they've cut out a lot of the stuff compared to Clearasil and other drugstore stuff I used previously.

I am a fan of Paula's Choice products. It took me some trial and error to find a regimen that works for me but she has sample sizes of almost all of her products, which helps. I have acne prone skin but now I only really get flareups during PMS. The products I currently use are:

Clean & Clear Sensitive Skin Foaming Cleanser (with Clarisonic at night)
Paula's Choice Resist Super Light SPF 30 moisturizer (this is literally the only moisturizer with sun protection that I have tried that doesn't make me break out)
Paula's Choice 8% AHA gel or 2% liquid BHA at night

@Littlebit: I would recommend talking to Kiehls too if you have one in your mall. I have been very pleased with their products. I also love clinique...I was using Total Turnaround collection before I switched to the routine above...

I just revamped my routine.

Morning:

Cleansed with a Norwex antibacterial cloth
Serum: Daily serum from Kiehls $46 (amazing...)
SPF: Elta Md with spf ($20 on Amazong)

Evening:
Cleansed with Cerave (drug store $8) and Mia2 (godsend)
Eye Cream: Rosa Antica from Kiehls ($46)
Night serum: Kiehls ($46)

I got some advice from a friend who is a pharma derm rep - she uses mostly Chanel products but that was out of my budget. My products end up being $166 for a 3 month supply. Plus Kiehls gives great samples - so I always have extra!

She also suggested adding a retinoid (sp?) but I am pregnant right now so I skipped that until I am post partum....

My routine is pretty simple but it really worked on the cystic acne that showed up out of nowhere once I turned 20 !

Basis cleansing bar
A small dot of Acne.org treatment (on nose cheeks and chin)
Small pump of cetaphil daily moisturizer !

I use Missha Super Aqua cleanser in the shower (I shower at night before bed). Then I use Kiehls ultra facial cream - rich and intense so a dab will do you. I do face and neck with that. Then I sleep. In the morning I just splash water on my face and towel pat dry. If it's blustery out I might use a tiny dab more cream for my face or Clinique Moisture Surge if I have some, but usually it's fine and ready for makeup with the hydration from the water. I exfoliate with a fine grit scrub every few days instead of the cleanser - currently nothing expensive just the St. Ives green tea scrub since I don't use it that often. If I feel run down I might slap a serum on before my cream - currently a ginseng one from Korea but any kind of vitamin serum works like the Vitamin C serums - they just pump and brighten a bit, especially under eyes.

@MrsKoala: I love oil cleansing!!! I don't really struggle with acne so I just rinse the oil and I'm dome with it. The redness my skin used to have is gone and I rarely break out. When I do, I spot treat with essential oil. Easy, gentle, and cost effective.

Swear by cetaphil daily face wash. I've tried expensive brands, fancy stuff, derm recommended stuff. And I always come back to cetaphil. I have been liking ole Hendrickson at Sephora. (I think that is how it's spelled) I was reccomended a sulphur based acne treatment during pregnancy. It was "safe" per Sephora. It was by dr Dennis gross. I've also used and liked murad and Kate Somerville. I broke out terribly during my pregnancy and post partum. It stabilized and went back to normal at 4 months pp

Dermatologists were not able to clear my skin and I tried lines like Pro-Active, Clinique and they didn't work for me. I ended up getting facials regularly and using the brands the esthetician recommended/sold for cleaning my skin and make up and that cleared my skin up. Now though that's all out of my budget and I use CeraVe face wash & moisturizer and apple cider vinegar and my skin hasn't been too bad with that.

@Littlebit: They aren't bad for me but if you don't think it'll work for your skin, you might want to try to find an exfoliant with AHA instead. That might work better. Honestly, it's just about finding a routine that works well with your type of skin.

About a month and a half ago I completely switched to homemade, natural skin products and the results for me have been amazing after dealing with acne my whole adult life.

I'm not using any soap on my face at all anymore. I'm washing my face with just water and a face cloth. Then twice a day I'm doing a toning face mist made from essential oils (lavender, tea tree, and lemongrass) in witch hazel. And at night I'm using essential oils (frankincense, ylang-ylang, and lemon) in aloe.

It's made a crazy difference.

My aesthetician (read: eye brow waxer and occasional facial giver) recommended the brand GM Collin to me and I love it! It's a Canadian brand and works great for me. A bit pricy, but your skin is so important and it lasts a long time. And I order online and always have a coupon code for 25% off. I use the face wash, night cream and then the day moisturizer..

I write this on all of the skincare recommendation threads but I swear it has worked wonders for me. Have you tried the oil cleansing method? Basically, you wash your face with an oil of your choice (a lot of people do coconut but I find grapeseed oil works best for my oily skin). After you remove the oil with a damp washcloth, let it dry and then use a chemical exfoliant like Stridex pads from the red box. I have seen a huge reduction in acne and if I skip the routine for a night, I notice a difference in the way my skin feels and looks.

I highly recommend checking out the SkincareAddiction subreddit for more information if you are interested. They have all kinds of information on starting a routine that will work best for your skin. (Prior to starting this, I was using Murad and it was just way too harsh for my skin)

I have adult acne, oily/combination skin and sensitive skin and have been using Dr. Hauschka products for years. They are gentle and 100% plant based (also never tested on animals and contain no animal byproducts if that is important to you) and have been effective in helping to clear up my skin, control oil production and brighten it up.
