@peaches1038: It seems like the hours are fine... My 16 mo old sleeps at 7:30, was waking up at 6:30 but lately at 5:30 :shocked: There def were so many nights where she randomly was up for like 2-3 hours! Those were the worst!

@snowjewelz: I'm definitely hoping it's a SHORT phase!!! Do you think we should try pushing bedtime to later?

@Ajsmommy: thanks for such a thorough reply. That really helps me. I'm not sure I want to do CIO yet so I'll try this tonight if needed. Thanks again!

@peaches1038: our nights started out with me nursing and rocking DD to sleep, then as she got older she self weaned from the nursing.. I was caught off guard so there was a period where I'd offer to nurse but if she didn't want to we would just lay in our bed until she fell asleep and then I'd transfer her to her crib.. after a while that got old so I decided to just put her in her crib. I'm a worry wart so for the first few times I'd stay in her room until she fell asleep. I had a blanket blocking her view of me (it was hung over the side of the crib) so she technically didn't know I was still in there (as stated above it was harder for me than for her! :silly: ) Anyway, I did that for a while until I felt comfortable just putting her down. I changed our bedtime routine to include reading books and rocking, in place of the nursing and rocking. But then after diaper change and books I'd put her right into her crib and she'd fall asleep.

I never let her cry. If she cried, which she did occasionally I'd go in pretty immediately, esp at first.

Since then bedtime has evolved but it's basically the same routine just with teeth brushing added and books in mommy's bed instead of in rocker since DD is getting bigger now.

I remember being unsure of how to change bedtime routine as it was happening but I just went with the flow and it all worked out ok.

That has totally happened to us randomly... I just dealt with it and prayed that it was a phase. Most of the time it was. And usually also a signal for me to make changes to nap/bed times.

@Ajsmommy: @hilsy85: so I tried just putting him down and he was fine for about 25 minutes and then started screaming. DH went in and was asleep in about 3 minutes. Did your los cry when you left them? If so, how long did you let them go before going in? I did leave him so maybe tonight I'll stay and see if he's able to fall asleep with me In there. Thanks for the advice!
@kitty: he doesn't nap very well and he never has. He takes maybe 4 30-45 min naps per day. Ugh thanks for the commiseration!!

@hilsy85: what <<< she said

If he's not fussy, I'd just put him back down and see if he can fall asleep on his own. I remember when DD started to do this and I was soo worried, but I ended up putting her back down (of course the first few times I stayed in her room in the glider until she fell asleep) but she would put herself to sleep eventually. She's been a great sleeper from day one. I think most of the transitions we went through were harder on me than on her. When she was really young I used to nurse her to sleep, I remember the first night she refused it :( but she was just fine!!

If he's not fussy, then have you tried just putting him down and letting him chat to himself for a while? he might put himself back to sleep!

That sucks, long wakeups are the worst 😯 How many hours of daytime sleep is he getting? And how long is he awake for at a time? It could be time to increase his awake time if this continues.

DS is 5.5 months old and for the past week he has been waking up in the MOTN as usual. He goes to bed around 7:15 and usually wakes once overnight between 1 and 3. He's up for the day around 6. The problem is that this one waking is now taking over an hour where before this week, he would eat and fall right back to sleep - 20 min max. Now he is wide awake after eating and it takes a ton of bouncing, shushing and binky reinsertions to get him back down. He was sick with an ear infection over the weekend but has been on antibiotics since Saturday. He isn't fussy or crying while he's up at night. Not sure if it's sickness related or the start of the 6 month sleep regression or just normal baby behavior...ugh I'm sorry for the rambly post. Just looking for suggestions and/or commiseration
