My LO had croup last week and got a cold just days later. I did everything everyone has mentioned above and he still has it but it's gotten much better. It really sucks when they're sick. I'm sorry!

LO has only had a few colds but the thing that has worked for us has been the humidifier. Good luck! I'm sure we will be going through the same when dd starts in a couple weeks.

@Mrs. Blue: Ok that's a good idea about letting the saline sit for a few minutes before trying to suction. I think I might try the steamy bathroom before I put her to bed tonight, too. It's been rough...she's usually so smiley and happy but last night she just wasn't herself. Hopefully the worst is almost over.

@lawbee11: yeah, we've had that happen. Sometimes it's like it's just too high in there or maybe the nasal passages are just too swollen. We just keep using saline and suction every now and then. Sometimes, I put the saline in, wait for a few minutes for it to do some work, and then suction. I hate that for you all! It's so miserable when they're sick and there's so little you can do. :-(

@T-Mom: I  the Vicks plug-in! It makes her room smell so good.

@Mrs. Blue: Were they ever so congested that the NF/saline didn't work? Last night (at 1am) we tried to NF her but nothing would come out because she was so congested, so I used the saline mist and it just dribbled out...it wouldn't even go up her nose because she was so congested. And then it was hard for her to nurse because she could barely breathe through her nose. No bueno!

@lawbee11: I'm so sorry! It's so sad when LOs are sick. Hope she feels better soon!

We, unfortunately, are experts at daycare colds now. We do a humidifier, saline and suction, Vicks Baby rub on chest, and we sometimes try the Hylands Cold Tablets. If she's having a really hard time breathing, either a steamy bathroom or bundling her up and taking her out in the cool night air might help; it works sometimes when the boys are borderline croup-y. Also, you might angle her crib mattress up if you think it will help her breathe better at night.

Sorry!

@Foodnerd81: It's definitely getting harder to do alone now that she's grabbing stuff. She'll just grab it out of her nose!

@emg86: I have some free samples of those cold tablets. Maybe I'll try that tonight.

@photojane: We did the baby rub on the feet last night, too, but I'm not sure it made much of a difference. I really like the Vicks pediatric waterless vaporizer we got...if nothing else it makes her room smell really good. I hope S starts to feel better soon!!

@Silva: M was so congested in the middle of the night that I used the saline mist on her and it just came right back out :( Ugh I felt so bad for her.

@photojane: I don't really know if anything is helping either- other than the saline drops/spray. Those had a noticeable impact.

My daughter keeps getting up at 4 am. She's super congested and has a cough then, but it all gets better once she's been up for a bit and things drain. But this 4 am thing is destroying me. TGIF.

Well, we tried the babyrub on the feet thing last night after reading all of these wonder stories online. It didn't work. And, last night was worse than ever. :crying: We've been using a cool mist humidifier, but haven't seen much difference from that either. Everyone seems to say that is helpful though. I hope they work for you!

Then use your other hand and arm to hold down her arms and sort of pin her down. R will still move her head but I can still get a good suction. Holding her arms down is key.

So gross and she HATED it but at least she is breathing better. Poor kid. :( I thought bfing would have protecting her from my cold at least.

Aw poor M! C has a cold too, but she got it from me, not daycare. She already seems to be over the worst of it and finally slept well last night, probably sleeping off the sickness.

Have you figured out how to use the nose Frieda alone? I haven't use it since she was teeny and had hardly any neck control- she has plenty of control now and used it to get away from any tissue or boogie wipe that comes near her face! I can't see how ill do the nose Frieda without someone else holding her head.

We've got the same thing going here. I just gave her some Tylenol and it helped a LOT. She's much happier now, so i guess she was in discomfort.

At night I've been putting eucalyptus oil on the floor of the shower and letting it run really hot until the room is steamy. Then I give her her bath in there. We've been doing baby Vicks, although I'm not sure it's helping much, I ordered some hippy stuff but it won't be here until tomorrow.
She slept fairly well, but woke up at 4 and couldn't fall back asleep because she was so congested. Now that she's been up and moving it's better, so I may try propping her mattress tonight.

Hope these babies get better soon. It's so sad to see her sick :(
