I have also heard of increased chances of other related allergies when you have peanut allergy. My DD seems to be ok with other legumes, but she has the birch pollen allergy (oral reaction to apple peel, peach peels, etc).

I think there's an increased chance of both if you're allergic to one. I'm allergic to peanuts and am fine with peas and lentils but have a mild chickpea allergy. It's probably worth talking to an allergist if you have one about how/when to introduce peanuts, if ever.

@Mrs. Blue: the sot thing is crazy odd. With a blood test my husband comes back not allergic to soy but he has had anaphylactic reactions to it twice and then other times had a little and been fine. When I get home I will send you an article or two that I have found.

@Cole: Interesting. He was briefly on soy milk and did fine on that. I hadn't even thought of soy. I'll pick up some Benadryl just in case. I really hope he does not have one as well. Scary stuff.

@Andrea: Thanks for responding. Looks like there is no way to predict until we try some day.

I don't know if it would increase the odds or not but my husband does have both. He has a much stronger reaction to peanuts than other legumes/lentils except soy which is also a major one for him. They are finding that some GMO soy has a protein that becomes so similar to the peanut protein that people react to it similarly to peanuts.

I hope for you guys that it is not peanuts and that it is something he grows out of. In the meantime I would avoid peanuts like the plague. Often the first reaction will be more mild than subsequent ones so keep benadryl on hand just on case.

I'm curious about whether your LO with a peanut allergy was allergic to other legumes. One of my boys had mild reactions to lentils and chickpeas-skin redness and rash almost immediately. He has had peas without any problem. I'm just wandering if this increases the risk of a peanut allergy as well.
