@MrsMccarthy: ugh that sucks. We went trough a phase where any time I sent Dh in at night she would get more upset, which was really hard for Dh since he doesn't get that much time with her to begin with, then she would seemingly reject his comfort. It was a bad time all around. I hope it's just a phase and he goes back to normal soon.

@Foodnerd81: thank you! Unfortunately my husband is the last person he wants to see. He screams even harder and tells bye bye even more when he comes so much as within 5 feet of us. It's a real problem.

@Alivoo01: I'm so sorry that we are both in this boat. It's awful.

He was up for 2 hours screaming then fell asleep for an hour then woke up again and just screamed for 30 min. Now he will be sleeping in and that means an even harder time at bedtime. I think I am going to try extending his bedtime routine and making my husband give him his bath nightly. I don't know of it will help but its worth a shot.

Just wanted to commiserate with you. DS is 13 months and the past few nights, he's been waking up around 3/4am screaming till there's tears rolling down his face. Nothing seems to really comfort him. I suspect his molars may be coming in, so I've been giving him teething tablets, but still no dice. Hope this phase passes soon for you! *hugs*

@MrsMccarthy: that sounds awful- the screaming and the pregnant boob squeezing! I'm sorry you are dealing with this. When we were trying to get my LO less dependant on my boobs, I had Dh go in and sooth her at night. It's like if I went in, with my milky boobs attached, and didn't offer them to her (to nurse) she would get really mad. But obviously she wasn't gettig that rom Dh so she had to make do with cuddling. Could your Dh try to calm him while you stay in your room with the door closed? I think I remember he doesn't really do the motn stuff but maybe for this short term just to break the habit?

@jedeve: when you let him lay there in the living room did he evetually go back to bed to lay down and sleep?

@edelweiss: unfortunately he throws anything I give him in anger. He only wants my boobs.

This has been going on for two hours. I wish I knew how to fix it.

is there another comfort item you could give him, like a toy/blankie/anything to replace your boobs? our 19-month old has had a couple of phases where he wakes up crying/screaming and just wants to hang out. eventually we have to put him down and let him CIO for about 15 minutes (but i understand that not everyone is comfortable with CIO).

Occasionally our toddler will wake up screaming and it takes a while to snap him out of it. Sometimes we will let him up and let him lay in the living room for a few minutes. When he was younger. we would just turn on the lights redo his pajamas and book. And just start over for the night.

Good luck!

My son is almost 2 and for a while there he was sleeping great with maybe a brief wake up here and there. Well lately he is consistently waking up at around 2 or 3 am. He will sit up and scream. The only thing that seems to sooth him is to squeeze my boobs. Probably a comfort thing from his nursing days. The problem is he wants to squeeze and tweak them for a long period of to time and its horribly uncomfortable. I am pregnant and very tender and sensitive. If I don't let him then he usually runs out of his room into the living room screaming. Once he starts that he is up screaming all night. He will crouch down and scream cry and sometimes yell "bye bye" at me which is something he tends to do when he is angry or doesn't want something. I thought for a while that these might be night terrors. I've tried ignoring them but it just makes then escalate and last forever. I am at my wits end, he is actually up screaming right now as I type this and I am blocking the door. I really don't know what to do. I offer him water or food to no avail. I wish I understood why my baby was having such trouble sleeping. Does this sound familiar to any of you and do you have any suggestions.
