My OBGYN actually told me if i lost between 15-20lbs when we were trying to conceive that it would help me get pregnant, especially since i have PCOS. It definitely helped and a month later i was pregnant!

I too am hoping to lose about 30ish lbs before TTC'ing. We have a bit over a year, so I have faith that I can do it! It's been a goal for awhile, but moving up our timeline has really upped my motivation!

We're both trying to lose some weight-him because of his high cholosteral and me because of ttc. Right now we are focusing more on healthy eating but we need to add in some workouts. We were walking twice a day everyday during the spring but once it got hot, we stopped. We need to start up again but now we've both been sick so it's been hard to get motivated.

@Habesbabe - Can you add a little walking in to your day? We try to do about a half mile a day, just around our neighborhood, and that, combined with small meals more often, really helps.

My dr. told me I should think about losing 20-30 lbs (ACK!) before TTC. That was about a year ago and my laziness & excuses have overcome my good intentions. I'm hoping to lose some weight now that summer's over (no more BBQs or ice cream, etc.), but we'll see. I guess I'm just not that motivated yet-- even though I've had a few overweight girlfriends tell me what they were MISERABLE while pregnant. You'd think that would be enough to inspire me, but nooooo...

I had a really rough winter, with one massive sinus infection that came back three times -- two z-packs failed, and finally took amoxicillin after almost three months' straight of being sick. Needless to say, I put on some weight during the colder months, since a sinus infection is one thing that keeps you from the gym.

So, the husband and I committed to revamping our diets and exercise habits, and to hold each other accountable, we starting weighing and measuring ourselves weekly. It was really encouraging to see our numbers moving -- even if just slightly at first -- and going through it together kept us accountable.

I'm really pleased I was able to get to a comfortable, healthy weight before we started TTC, and I hope I'll be able to keep up the gym visits when the time comes that we get a BFP!

@jbhops - I used to do longer runs 3 times a week, but now that we're trying, I've been doing shorter, slower paced runs (usually 1.5 - 2 miles at a 12-15 minute pace) basically everyday on the advice of my doctor. I actually like it more than the longer runs since its my after-work stress relief during the week and on the weekends my husband joins me since I'm not doing longer distances.

@Jaguar - I'm diabetic and was told that the best thing you could possibly do is aim to lose 10% of your body weight. That seems like a lot to me, but we'll keep trying.

@JBHOPS - It seems to me that gym time is therapeutic to most (not my thing), but you should be fine. I've read that women who work out pre-pregnancy are fine to keep working out, just not super high impact. You should be fine going to the gym, but if you want to alleviate your concerns, try a gym with a personal trainer program so that they can help you design a workout, and then update it as your needs change. I had a dr. tell me that I could possible not gain any weight because of the balance between losing weight and gaining pregnancy weight. She was definitely okay with me losing a fair amount the first several weeks of pregnancy. Bear in mind, I was also logging every bite that I ate, eating a specific nutrition plan, walking, and using medication to contol diabetes. You will be fine!

Does anyone else worry about trying to lose weight and trying to get pregnant at the same time? I need to get back to the gym and start doing weight training again. I don't want to just sit around waiting to get pg because it's obviously going to take some time. I don't need to lose to get pg but I need to lose to save my sanity.

I'd like to go back to the gym, do cardio and weight training but I'm worried about that messing with my system. Is that something I should worry about? I don't plan on working out much more than an hour - an hour and a half a day, 5 days a week.

I have a family history of PCOS (not diagnosed myself although I have some of the telltale symptoms) and my doctor wants me to lose 10-15 lbs to increase my likelyhood of getting pregnant. He opted not to test me for PCOS since his advice would be the same either way. So, I've cut out the bad carbs and sweets and I've been exercising daily to drop those pounds before we get pregnant!

I want to lose more, but not sure how much.

Interestingly enough, working with the diabetes specialist, she told me that I could go the entire pregnancy without gaining weight, depending on how I was eating and walking. The idea was that with eating 6 times a day (smallish amounts) of very specific items (2 proteins, 1 veggie, 1 milk, etc) the amount of weight that I was naturally losing would balance with what I needed to gain for the baby. She's very experienced at what she does and she explained that as long as my blood sugars were healthy, and baby and I were doing well, it would be possible. I don't know that I would strive for that, but it would be nice to not gain a lot. When I am pregnant, she said to not gain any more than 15-20 poounds.

When I got pregnant with my first, I was actually in the process of losing weight. I lost 10 lbs and I think the weight loss definitely helped in getting a little positive at the end of the pee stick.

We had actually decided to wait, but Mavi decided that he wanted to show his face. It was a shock but we were happy nonetheless. I'm still not back to my pre-pregnancy weight. (still 4lbs to lose) But I will get there seeing I want to loose another 25 lbs.

I'm in the same boat - a miscarriage scared me into weight loss. Although, overall, I'm looking at it as more of "getting heathier" than weight loss. 17 lbs have seem to come off naturally. I'm crossing my fingers that more will do the same!

I'm trying to lose weight before we TTC. I really could use to lose 10-15 pounds, but I'm not going to stress out about it. I recently have dropped down from being "overweight" to "normal" according to the BMI, so that's going to have to do, haha. I'm going to keep trying to eat healthy and exercise more, but my husband and I have decided to start TTC in January, regardless of my weight at that time.

How many of you ladies are trying to lose weight before TTC? After we miscarried, I told my hubs that I wanted to lose 15 pounds, and pretty much have. I could stand to lose a lot more, and probably will, but it's not as big of a goal as it was at first.
