@ldh112: hi there! I gained 50 lbs in my pregnancy! I understand the struggle. It's still very early for you though! You don't want to lose weight too quickly because you won't want it to effect your milk supply. But getting yourself to a place of confidence where your happy with how your clothes fit and how you look and feel is important! Breastfeeding burns calories and if you eat healthy and are even moderately active, that should help you drop weight without trying too much. If your diet and activity level are good then maybe just a few adjustments will fire things up.
I had about 20lbs to lose but I didn't focus on weight loss until around 6 - 9 months! I'm a fitness and personal trainer and I'll certainly give you some tips to get you started on losing weight! Send me your email .

I agree with the 9 months to go on, 9 months to come off. Plus breastfeeding can throw everything.
I bought new clothes for nursing. I even splurged on a nice pair of shorts that fit my post partum body and I felt looked nice. I didn't go crazy, just about five tops, one shorts and one dress. It helped me feel better about my new body.

@ldh112:
Hi! With my first I gained about the same amount as you did and it took me about a year to return to my pre pregnancy weight. It was hard to adjust to the differently sized me and I really resented that my body still didn't feel like it was mine anymore.
One thing that really helped was buying a few items in my current size that were flattering and that I felt good in. I got a really nice pair of designer jeans from a consignment shop and some cute tops and sweaters.

I loved my nursing boobies so I got a few cute bras that made them look spectacular under my new blouses. If you need to have nursing clips a seamstress will put them on a non nursing bra for you, and Nordstroms will turn a bra into a nursing bra for $5.

I also got a few pieces of shape wear. I'm all for loving my body and appreciating what it's done for me and baby, but it was easier to love and appreciate when everything was smoothed out and supported.

8weeks pp is such a small amount of time- you could still have some fluid retention and your supply is still establishing itself. Be kind to yourself- whatever you weigh you deserve kindness. Sleep deprivation and life with a newborn and dealing with BF issues is a big adjustment. Living in a postpartum body is also a big adjustment. Be kind and gentle to yourself.

I felt this way too at that stage, but you really need to give yourself time. I remember I had a goal to be down to my pre-preg weight by the time I got back to work (around 14 weeks) and I still didn't make that. However, I did end up losing all the weight and then some (by 8 months post-partum, I was about 10 pounds below my pre-preg weight). Some of my weight loss was due to my elimination diet, but I think alot of it was breastfeeding as well. I know it's hard to be patient, but it probably will come off if you continue doing what your doing. I wouldn't go on a diet if you are breastfeeding.

With my first pregnancy, the PP weight just fell off me. I had lost all my pregnancy weight, plus an additional 10 pounds by about 4-6 months PP. I hadn't weighed that amount since high school. I got pregnant at 10 months PP and now I'm currently coming up 7 months PP.
This time around the weight isn't falling off at.all. I'm about 13 pounds above my pre pregnancy weight. I was very surprised at this from A) the first time it was so easy to lose weight, and B) I'm now running after a toddler and carrying around a baby. I tandem wear them almost every day and walk about 5km. Even while carrying an extra like 43 pounds around daily, the weight still won't budge. I've been stuck at this weight from about 2 months PP.
I went and bought a few new outfits that I was more comfortable in to help make myself feel better. I took a babywearing barre class 2 x a week and still no difference. I started getting really down about how I look/felt so I also went and started crossfit 3 weeks ago. I try to go 2x per week first thing in the morning so that it's done for the day. It's really hard getting up at 545am to get to the class, but I'm always really glad when I do. Even though it's only the 3rd week that I've done crossfit, I'm starting to feel way better about myself. I still weigh the same, and don't think I look different yet, but it just makes me feel good by getting up and going.
It's so hard, but we just need to love ourselves, and as long as we eat well and try to be active/healthy we should eventually start feeling better and seeing results.

i remember reading somewhere that most of the weight you lose from breastfeeding comes off between 3 and 6 months. i lost the most weight during that time. i never lost all my post partum weight, but then i even gained some back when i back to work so i blame my lifestyle and the stress of everything as opposed to it not being possible. after my current pregnancy, i already feel more confident about losing more weight and keeping it off because i won't be working on a thesis and i will learn from last time where i ate way more than i needed to when breastfeeding (i hope to make healthier choices this time).....so when i think about it, i actually lost the most weight during that period and did not dramatically change my eating then either.

@corduroy @simplyfelicity

@corduroy yeah, I'm worried about supply because of my BF issues thus far but like I mentioned, I am adding 250-500 calories in on the 21day fix so I don't (hopefully) jeopardize things. The videos are 30 minutes and not high impact which is good for easing back into a workout routine.

I am really glad to know I have company in this pp frustration! It's so hard for me to not compare myself to friends (who were BFing, by the way at this point pp) who lost it so quickly. One thing I really looked forward to was wearing my old clothes and I feel like it's never going to happen. Even clothing a couple sizes up fit weird because it's mostly in my middle. I can't really hide my stomach in dresses or skirts because it all clings so... yeah, I am ready to burn my sweats/leggings when it's all said and done :)

Oh, sweet mama, I know how hard it is to feel that way. After both of my babies, I dropped a good amount right away, and then held on to 10 lbs until after I weaned. I have done absolutely nothing special to lose weight (no diet or exercise plans), and now after my second baby, I'm in my pre-preg size, from before my first baby. It takes a long time though, I never got all the way back after baby 1, because I got pregnant again at 13 months PP, but this time I weaned at 16 months and even though my old clothes fit again at 12 months PP, they fit completely comfortably now at 18 months PP.

Be kind to yourself, try to be patient with your body, and don't push it too hard. I know it's scary, but if you're a healthy person in general, it *will* come off. Carrying a baby is a big deal-- you aren't fully healed internally for 18 months, so it makes sense that your outsides take a while too.

And big hugs. :heart:

@ldh112: I'm 9 weeks postpartum from #2 and I'm feeling the same way. I bought some cheap bigger clothes and started working out lightly two weeks ago. The scale isn't moving but I feel a lot better about it. The nursing hunger that gives me that "I need all the foods right now" feeling is lessening. I've stopped buying the crap food that I couldn't resist in the early days. Hopefully that makes an impact. I'm doing everything very moderately though since supply and energy levels are my biggest concerns.

@avivoca: YES! I always use the pie chart option and check the "nutrients" section for grams, but it's not as good as it used to be. $10 a month is bullshit. For now, i'm aiming for "good enough", since i'm losing. Once i get stagnant and can't break a plateau, i'll have to find a better method possibly

@ldh112: Food is made up of building blocks of protein, fat, and carbohydrates. Of the food I consume, I aim for a percentage of each. 45% of my total calories from carbs, 30% from fat, and 25% protein.

I'm one of those ladies that holds on to 10-15 pounds while breastfeeding/pumping, even though I was exercising. I weaned about a month ago (21 months postpartum) and have lost 5 pounds. Eight weeks is so early though, so try not to beat yourself up.

I gained about 50 this time. Half of it fell off within the first month. Then for a month it didn't go anywhere. So in July, I started working out 4x/week and calculated out my macros. I've lost about 10 pounds in a month. I've got about 15 to go. I waited to see if the weight would come off on its own, but it wasn't.

I gained 43 lbs with my first. The first 20 lbs came off pretty easily...within the first 2 weeks or so. But then, like you, it seemed to slow down--I was pumping 45+ oz a day, and eating like a beast, with no time to exercise and having major sleep deprivation. BUT I did end up losing another 10 lbs over the next 5 months without doing a thing other than pumping. I was honestly probably eating 3000 cals a day, and I still lost that 10 lbs.

So I was down 30 lbs and had 13 to go. I bought a few things a size up (good thing I did), and started watching what I ate a little (like maybe just going down to 2700 cals a day, haha) and I verrrry slowly lost another 7. So I was up 8 lbs from pre-preg weight. Still no exercise at that point.

So I lost 37 lbs doing basically nothing, although it did take a long time. So I think what you are experiencing is super normal. You either need a drastic change in diet or exercise or you have to be content with it taking a while for your body to resettle.

Unfortunately in my case, as soon as I pump weaned, I regained 5-6 lbs and then I immediately got pregnant again and started gaining a ton all over again. So now I'm 11 days post partum and have a good 40ish lbs to lose.

I'm sorry that you're feeling this way. Honestly, 8 weeks postpartum is still sooooooooo early to be worried about this! It took 9 months to put the weight on, it's natural for it to take just as long to take it off...

For me, after I lost the initial weight from baby being born, placenta, water, etc, I was pretty stagnant. I found it really hard to lose weight while breastfeeding. Whenever I tried to diet, my supply would plummet, so I eventually gave up worrying about it. It was more important to me to keep up my supply and be able to provide breast milk for my baby than it was to lose the weight. I'm not planning on going on any serious diet until I'm done nursing. But I feel comfortable with that decision and knowledge that I'm going to keep most of this weight on for a while.

Hugs to you. I hope you can accept yourself at whatever weight you are - your body did an amazing thing keeping your LO safe and healthy and now it's continuing to do amazing work breastfeeding. Don't beat yourself up. <3

I am about 7.5 weeks postpartum and am trying to not beat myself up too much about this but here goes:

I was pretty healthy pre-pregnancy, weighing 128 at 5'5". I was not exercising much and had actually gained maybe 5 lbs after getting married in 2013 which I blame on being a newly wed :) (we were only married 10 months before getting pregnant.) Anyway, I gained 39 lbs with my pregnancy. I did prenatal yoga pretty regularly and occasionally a prenatal strength training class, but didn't really do anything too strenuous. I didn't really watch what I ate, but we cook fairly healthy and don't eat out a ton, so the weight gain sort of freaked me out if I am honest. However, I was optimistic that things would "go back to normal" somewhat easily because, for several of my friends, they lost most of their baby weight within 2 months and were back in normal clothing soon after that time frame.

At 2 weeks postpartum I was down about 20 lbs. I felt relieved that half of it was gone but over the next month, I didn't really feel like anything else changed and sure enough, at my 6 week appt, no more weight had come off AT ALL! Nothing fits- I basically can only wear sweat pants or my maternity leggings. I am breastfeeding (and supplementing) and have been told that some people hold on to the weight instead of lose it, which honestly terrifies me as a person who has struggled with being overweight/body image issues most of her teenage/adult life.

I started 21 day fix Friday with my husband (who is incredibly supportive) just to see if a jump start with exercise/portion control would help. I have never been one to do dieting plans (side note: I also am adding extra calories for BF) but I just feel like I am living in PJs because of this and want to feel more put together/feel more like myself at some point.

Anyway, I just wondered if others had this experience of stagnant weight loss? Any tips or success stories?
