definitely - I actually rinse and toast quinoa in a dry pan, sometimes with cinnamon to add it into my yogurt for the texture.

beans I'm huge on - I think I eat TOO many haha

I will check out Chia seeds, too. Good call on the once a week trial - I have a chicken stir fry I love and every time I make it (normally once every two weeks) I try to introduce a veggie I haven't yet tried. I grew up a very very picky eater and only in the last couple of years have I allowed myself to try new things.

@babycanuck: do you like beans or quinoa?? Those are healthy alternative protein sources for us that are healthy! I use while wheat flour and whole wheat pastry flour in baking. Chia seeds are filling in yogurt and smoothies. I like coconut and avocado oils for baking and cooking. I haven't tried to lose weight but when trying to increAse our veggie intake and eat more whole foods, I had the best luck focusing on a few core meals to repeat or tweak a little. Then I experimented once a week with new ingredients or harder recipes.

thanks for the tips - I picked up some avocados when I went shopping today, along with a bunch of fresh produce for the week, and I'll be hitting up the bulk food store to get whole grain flour since I will also incorporate this into my baking routine.

There are plenty of substitutions. Can't do nuts? Go for avocado. No nut flour? Try whole grain. It means getting a little more creative, but think of all the restrictions the MSPi mamas have!

It's definitely possible! I avoid nuts and flour too... and have lost weight.

Do you eat a lot of veggies? Ever since we upped our veggies and greens, I've eaten a lot less meat overall.

This is for people trying to lose weight pre- and post-pregnancy...

I definitely put some weight on in the last couple of years and I'm trying really hard to lose it. Weight is mostly in my tummy/thigh areas. My problem is food restrictions - I love chicken, but really not any other meat product. I don't eat pork at all. On top of that I have a nut allergy, so I stay away from all tree and peanuts.

Everywhere says munch on good fats like nuts, etc. Substitute white flours for almond flours, etc. How can I work on losing weight with frustrating restrictions? Fruit is great, too much fruit = too much sugar. Dairy is great, too much dairy can cause bloating.

Help me out :(
