Strange. I've never had this, but I have a friend who lost hers permanently. She had a brain aneurism though, which I'm fairly certain isn't what's going on with you!

Funny thing though, she was chaperoning a sports team away tournament, and she suspected that the guys were drinking, so she grabs one of their "pop" bottles and takes a big whiff.... then realizes that isn't going to do much good. So she just yelled "I knew it!" and dumped it and walked away. Then later tells me, "yeah, that was just pop" once she saw how confused the guys looked.

Going through this right now! The first time it ever happened to me was last year, in this brutal 2 week colld/sinus thing I was suffering from. Smell and taste did come back. Right now I'm on day 4 of the cold and day 2 of no smell/taste, and hoping it doesn't last as long. I absolutely hate it!

Yes, I've had this happen, and I found it very upsetting too. It got better after about a week, but there were a few days in which I had absolutely zero sense of smell, even when I wasn't totally congested. But it did get better.

I've had a cold for the last few days and I've been pretty congested. Yesterday I noticed that I couldn't really smell anything but it didn't concern me since I was all stuffed up. Today I realized that even during times when my nose is relatively clear, I can't smell a thing! I even tried to smell some strong things, like my deodorant and nail polish remover, and I couldn't smell them at all.

Has anyone ever gone through this? It is really disconcerting.
