My 4yr old is very shy but when she opens up she is SO loud. I am constantly shushing her especially in public. We call her "the radio" and wish we could turn the radio OFF! I think kids just don't have a sense for what is appropriate and everything is exciting to them! All I have been able to do is say stuff like "use your inside voice" but it doesn't always help!

@twist: It's actually opposite here: He goes to his dads every other weekend, so we get a couple days of nice and quiet until he returns, lol. I miss him when he's gone, but WOW he's loud!

@katiew92081: oh yes, it makes me crazy. Especially since we only get them every other weekend and occasionally through the week, so I get two weeks of silence and then BAM LOUDNESS. haha.

@reese: I've thought about that, but he doesn't show any other signs of it. I suppose it couldn't hurt. Although, I think they do routine hearing checks in his elementary school each year. I might email his school nurse and see if she can check him out a little.

@twist: Two loud boys sounds even worse, lol. I think the fact that I'm only a few weeks away from giving birth, my nerves are more easily agitated, and it's really not as bad as it seems. Plus, until this summer we live in a small 2 bedroom apartment, which I think makes him seem even louder, cause we're all on top of each other here. We're buying a house, soon, so maybe that'll help him take his loudness elsewhere, lol. Thanks!

haha. We have a 5 & 8 year old boys, they are soooo incredibly loud.

I do think part of it is an attention thing, they are constantly trying to talk over other people or each other. However, I think it's also just a little boy thing.

We just remind them all the time to use their inside voice. Which seems like we're telling them that all.the.time. but yea... I don't have any tips really just wanted to say you're not alone!

Has he had his hearing checked? Have you noticed him not hearing you the first time or turning up the television too loud? I see this at work - that is why I ask.

ETA: I have no children so take this FWIW

I have a 5 year old son who CONSTANTLY talks loud. He can be right next to me and when talking or asking for something, he just talks. so. loud!

I constantly remind him to turn down his volume, but it only works for the next sentence.

I do notice that it's extra loud when my husband is home and trying to talk, also, so it's possible it's an attention thing. But, my husband is only home in the evenings, and my son can be loud during the day. He's an only child, until March, when his little sister will be coming around. I worry that he's going to be crazy loud when she comes, and it'll be hard to tell him to keep it down if she's sleeping.

Any pointers? Has anyone successfully turned down the volume on their child? I end up with headaches sometimes, just from hearing him blab so loud!
