Compression definitely helps with emptying faster.

Also - if you find that slow emptying is a chronic thing, try taking 1 or 2 lecithin capsules before a pump. It helps the hindmilk release so you'll empty faster.

@CakeLady: I hope I didn't discount your worries by saying I'd be happy.

And yes to the not so gentle compression, haha. Sometimes, I feel like I should apologize to my boobs. ;)

I wouldn't worry about it until it's been a few days. I consistently pump 12 oz a day but have an occasional awesome day or a crappy day.

Honestly, I think it is a fluke. I have had fluctuations in my supply every now and then but it usually gets back to normal after a couple days.

My supply is similar to yours and this happens to me every so often (and always on a Monday) so it might be the later morning session. I think mine is attributed to not pumping regularly through the weekend (I exclusively nurse on the weekends!)
Oatmeal and tons of water usually help me out and the next few days it's back up again!

@CakeLady: This happens to me whenever my LO adds an extra nursing session in the night/early morning or eats later than usual (like what you described). Hopefully you'll be back to normal once you go back to your typical schedule!

@Vegmama: Thanks! I hope AF is not planning to show up yet - though I will make a note of the calcium magnesium supplement for when it does. I will up the water for sure. Not so gentle compressions helped me get what I was able to today.

Also, sorry about your supply issues, I know I'm lucky to have a pretty good supply and that this can be a sensitive topic.

I would be so happy to get that amount, but I have chronic low supply!!

Try drinking a ton of water ... And, I am sure your supply is just wonky because of the schedule. Do you have your cycle back yet? I know mine dips around my period. I take a calcium magnesium supplement between ovulation and my period to protect my supply.

When you have your letdown, you could try doing gentle compressions to get more milk out.

Good luck! :)

I usually am able to pump a decent amount during my first two pumping sessions of the day (6-8oz, occasionally more) the third is usually much less. Today I got less than 5oz both times and had to pump longer to get it.

DS woke up to eat at 4am, which he hasn't been doing lately and then ate "breakfast" later than usual -at 7:30 as opposed to 6 or 6:30. Is the change in routine responsible? Something else?

Any ideas for making session 3 more productive?
