I liked that they were breathable. I tested him before I let him have it in his crib. Basically, I put the lovey over his face and watched to see if he would take it off right away. The first few times, he didn't but somewhere between 5-6 months he did. She does like to throw it on top of her face though! By 10-11 months I felt comfortable letting her have regular stuffed animals, too.
