@Coco Bee: I was anti-lovey before I had my son because I didn't (and still don't) see a reason to introduce one if the child doesn't need it for soothing. I didn't want to be in the position of having to scour ebay or travel to the ends of the earth to find a replacement if something happened, YKWIM?

This is really something that the child dictates anyway.

LO is also a thumb-sucker or more recently, a sleeve-sucker. But while we're playing on the floor or during walks, we play with/hold a soft little blanket. It wasn't meant to be a lovey but she seems to like it a lot. Next week LO starts daycare so I might give it a try to see if it might comfort her.

Our lovey is a small furry square blanket with a bear head that we introduced just before LO was 4 months. I started giving it to him during our naptime routine. He would rub it all over his face while I read some books. We still use it for the wind down and now it goes in the crib with him for naps and bedtime. He really does seem to associate his lovey with sleepy time. :)

We introduced the lovey at around 8w when DD started daycare. Since DH and I shared drop-off/pick-up it initially started with just being in her carseat but then shifted to being with her during naps at daycare. She sucks her thumb as well and honestly think the lovey will be easier to break her of when the time comes.

I was anti lovey until my son needed it to fall asleep. Now we don't go anywhere without it when he has to sleep. I personally wouldnt introduce one unless it was necessary.

We introduced a lovey and I think it's the reason we've never had separation issues with Wagon Jr. When we left him at daycare or in the nursery at church, if he cried, the teachers would give him his lovey and he'd immediately hug it and suck on his fingers and be happy for the rest of the time. They all called it the "magic blanket".

He still uses it for naptime and bedtime (but doesn't suck his fingers anymore). We introduced it really early but he didn't start really paying attention to it until around 15 or 16 months?

We just kind of brought Livs Loveybear around with us everywhere starting around 3.5 months, and I would put it on her while she nursed so she associated it with comfort and sleepy time. Now any time I check the monitor at night, she is snuggling with her loveybear (thats her name...original huh?) It was gifted to us by my boss in a gift basket, and its the first thing she really took to. Her face lit up when she saw it

When did you introduce a lovey to your LO? How did you decide what to give them? How did you know they were ready for one?

My LO doesn't have trouble during nap time or bed time. I don't really see a need for a lovey. She's a thumb sucker and gets her comfort there. But I don't want to deprive her of a lovey.
