@LivsMama: Yes yes. It's my sister's SIL (my BIL's brother's wife). I haven't talked to my sister yet but she's going to BAER too.

@WinnieBee: It was judgey in the most annoying way--passive aggressively judgey. It is the kind of comment people make to be *safely* judgey, i.e., to say it in such a way that if you come back with a response, you end up looking like the crazy person. *sigh*

@LivsMama: @MsLipGloss: Thanks! I needed this gut check. I wasn't sure if I should nominate myself for worst mom of the year ; ) Co-sleeping works for MANY people and I'm not knocking it....I just thought this woman's comment was sort of judgey.

@WinnieBee: Yeah - as someone who has slept with her LO in the same bed on occasion--like last night-- (I swore I would never do that - LOL), I would definitely consider *me* a much bigger threat to the safety of my baby than a lovey! So, to the "paranoid" comment I give one complete BAER (big azz eye roll), fo sho.

@winniebee: absolutely. Im not knocking cosleeping by any means, but him sleeping with a lovey at 8 months old is a minor concern. I know the photo you are talking about. Its not like hes sleeping with a pillow and a down comforter. =o)

@MsLipGloss: @LivsMama: She basically said "Please be careful he is breathing. I'm very sorry, I'm paranoid." Not that I judge her decisions, but her kids always slept in bed with her...to me, isn't that a bigger breathing risk than a little lovey at 8 months old?!

oh jeez. Liv slept with a lovey from 3 months on. His risk of SIDS is hugely reduced now. Dont let some commenter on IG instill fear in you.

I agree with the pps . . . you know what's best for your LO based on his development. If I had seen the pic, I wouldn't have given it a second thought. And seriously, who brings up SIDS in a casual post? Sometimes I wonder wth is wrong with people. : /

@mrs. wagon: LO loves to soothe himself by putting the lovey over his face after he's done wrestling with it.

I believe SIDS worries should end around the 6 month mark. I started with a lovey with LMW at like 4 months. She never touched it but at 5 months she started using it as her soothing technique. She even pulls it over her face and falls asleep like that sometimes. She'll be 6 months next week. I'm not concerned because she's a very big and strong baby, and after falling asleep wtih it on her face she always pulls it off about 30 mins later, so I know that if something is not letting her breathe she'll probably just pull her face away.

Your commenter... ugh. Nice for them to be concerned for you, but since T is over 6 months you are obviously making an informed decision in letting him sleep with a lovey.

WJ is over 3 years old now and still sleeps with his lovey. He also has 3 other smalled stuffed animals that he sleeps with now, but he always ends up snuggling with the same lovey he had as an infant. (well, one of the FOUR that we rotate between!)

My DD sleep with two loveys. We introduced one at 3mo, then she got wind if the backup and now at 23mo wants both. If you are very concerned about it covering your LO's face, I would sew it in half so that it makes a triangle. Good luck!

My LO uses a lovey, we just make sure that once he is asleep it's not near his face.

My LO is also 8 months and has been sleeping with two loveys for a few months. Pps are right, the risk of SIDS is greatly reduced now, and your LO seems to have enough control over his body that I think it would be safe.

My LO has slept with a lovey since we swaddle-weaned at 4.5 months. He seriously looooves his lovey and he's fallen asleep with it covering his face. I've never gone in to move it or adjust him and he always ends up moving it (or himself) on his own.

I admit that I'm not an overly cautious parent and I don't tend to follow many rules. I also haven't read up on SIDS since my LO was a newborn but I do believe the risks are significantly reduced after 6 months if not sooner.

Oh geez, don't let them see pics of my babies!!!! I have always had a blanket and 1 small stuffed animal in my childrens' cribs. By 6 months old, DD had about 4 animals in with her! She could roll and had good neck control, so I never even questioned it. I am not too concerned about having small loveys in the crib with them.

At 6 months I started letting my LO sleep with a lovey for naps. Maybe around 7 months at night. He's now 8 months and can almost crawl and has always has good head control etc.

I posted a pic on instagram of him sleepIng snuggling with a lovey - a tiny blanket that has a lion head made of light fleece material. It's maybe a foot log and the head of the lion is the size of a small peach. Someone posted a comment about SIDS in response....now I'm paranoid and wondering if a lovey is a mistake at this age.

Honest thoughts?
