We introduced DD to her lovey around 3m. We have three of the same Carter animal head attached to a blanket (giraffe head on green blanket that says "cuddly"). Two of them are in circulation at any given time; one goes to daycare on Monday and comes home on Friday, the other stays in DD's room/bed, the third only comes out when necessary (i.e. if LO gets sick at night prompting a washing of the bedroom one). She doesn't have a preference for one over the other but I think that is because they all get washed each week if not every other week.

My daughter had a blanket with different textured ribbons on the side that a friend made. She would always rub them when she fell asleep. That always stayed in the crib though. And now that she is older she obsesses about her "guys" her stuffed animals that have to be lined on the bed just right and covered up. But neither one of my girls had things they carried around with them.

My grandmother makes "puffy pillows," which every child she's made them for loves. They're child sized pillows covered in a silky fabric that feels nice on baby fingers, embroidered with their name.

My grandmother makes as many as needed out of the same fabric--there are mini ones for car rides, an official one for home, and extras for the homes baby visits a lot.

My nephew learned to self-soothe beautifully with puffy pillows, because my sister would give him one to hold around bedtime and whenever she comforted him during tears. He doesn't care that there are multiple puffy pillows; if he sees more than one, he gathers them and holds them all!

I tried a lovey, but lo just pushes it away. All she wants is her thumb.

We have the Angel Dear blankie, the lion version, for Wagon Jr. We introduced a few different ones when he was sleep training, and this was the one he seemed to like the most. Plus it's widely available. So when we were out and about and needed it for a nap, we'd just buy another one. This is how we ended up with four... but it seems to be the perfect number for us. One in the crib, one is usually downstairs somewhere, one in the wash, and one just in case of an emergency in the drawer. I'm pretty sure he can't tell the difference, but some of them have their whiskers pulled out a bit more and some are tightly sewn in, so I'm sure he's seen the difference there.

Once when we had a brand new one he rejected it! (it felt very different from a used one!) so I put it through the laundry cycle for a few weeks and then he was fine.

He still uses them for sleep, but doesn't need them at daycare for naptimes. But when he was younger, babysitters and the teachers at daycare and church sunday school called it the "magical blanket". Whenever he started crying, they'd hand the blanket to him, he'd put his fingers in his mouth and stop crying immediately and he'd be fine for the rest of the time!

We totally plan on getting four for the next baby too-- I think we're going to go with the lamb this time. They sell them in a box of three ("a pair and a spare").

Yes, my son has finally taken a lovie. My mom made it so we have requested a second one as a backup. They'll be as similar as possible.

I bought two of the exact same and alternate washing them. I don't think she can tell the difference this way.

Olive's is her burp cloth and we have a ton. She can't tell the difference since there is no special color/pattern on it. I've heard that kids that have a lovey like a doll or special blanket can really tell the difference so you should always get a back up.

Cobi is just over 3 months and seems to have an affinity for his Aden & Anais blankets. I'm glad he chose those because they're soft, lightweight, easy to replace and relatively inexpensive. We have four and they all have different patterns. He's not really attached to them though, so we'll see if it stays this way.

We introduced DD to a lovey when she was 3 or 4 months old; it was one of the Carter's animal heads with the attached blanket. She gave that up around a year, though, and became really attached to a blanket her aunt made her, instead.

Does your lo have one? Do you have multiples of the same item in case you have to wash it? Is every lovey the exact same or are the colors or shape different?
