My meds were quoted around $2k (sometimes you can find leftovers from other people because you have to buy it all ahead). And a monitored IUI cycle was $505 or $550 I think.

@travellingbee: Not sure yet, but doubtful. I hope so.

I'm happy to hear about all of the success that you all have had! It makes the potential cost a little easier to bear. I'm totally scared of having multiples, but after thinking I might not have another at all, I know we can figure it out

I did IUI + injectibles after not responding to Clomid or Femara. I had to do two cycles and it was a lot of monitoring but they were able to adjust the dosage based on my blood work and ultrasound. For my second one I did have multiple follicles (3 mature and 2 almost) and we almost converted it to an IVF. But we decided to go ahead with the IUI. I did have to sign a bunch of paperwork regarding multiples and selective reduction but in the end we only ended up with a singleton.

Luckily my insurance covered it but with my old insurance I think I was quoted between $2,500 and $4,000, with most of that being the medications.

I was recommended to go straight to injectibles plus IUI after bloodwork showed my AMH at .3 and my FSH at 20.3. So that's what we did. It was almost completely covered by insurance, I think we paid $200 or something?
I do second the caution to be careful if you end up with more than 1-2 follicles!

I just wanted to pipe in with my experience with injectibles. I have had one child with injectibles/IUI, and I am approaching 29 weeks pregnant with my second child conceived through injectibles/IUI. We did do two failed Clomid/IUI cycles. But what I favored with injectibles is the ability to really control the cycle and make adjustments along the way. With monitoring, bloodwork, etc. it's a good step before IVF if intervention is required.

As for cost, mine was covered by insurance. Meds were reasonable when we ordered them from here: http://prices.freedomfertility.com/
That page has some pricing for you so you can get a feel.

@BlueWolverine: I think my place is on the higher end. Do you have coverage for the medicine?

Thanks, everyone! It's helpful to hear about different experiences.

@travellingbee: Yikes! That seems so expensive. Way cheaper than IVF, but wow. We're committed to trying at least one assisted cycle. I'm just a little disappointed at how much it's going to cost. Just wow.

I was finally diagnosed with mild insulin resistant PCOS and DOR (Diminished Ovarian Reserve). I was put on dexamethasone and metfomin for my IUI/IVF cycles. My AMH was 1.2 but I think the numbers fluctuated. I didn't start doing injectibles until I did IVF.

We were supposed to go straight to injectables too because of my high FSH and low AMH, but I got pregnant and miscarried. I think it's a normal jump for DOR. My injectibles IUI cucle would have been $2500.

I have PCOS so totally different circumstances but my injectible IUI cycle was a nightmare. I didn't respond to clomid or femera at all, so we had no choice but to move to injectibles. The issue was that my clinic would only proceed with an IUI cycle if there were 1 or 2 follicles - no more, which I was completely fine with. But because injectibles are so powerful and I have PCOS (leaving me prone to over respond and end up an octomom), I was on a super small dose and had to come in for daily monitoring for weeks. Eventually we cancelled the cycle BC we couldn't find the right balance of meds and I moved successfully to IVF.

The only feedback I have about injectible IUI is that it can easily lead to too many embryos, so I would want to clearly hear from the doc how they planned to manage that. If there are too many, the cycle will be cancelled. My doc avoided injectible IUI cycles for the most part and did Clomid IUI then he recommended IVF.

My doc's office called today and he wants to go straight to injectables and IUI. This would be our first intervention. DD is 27 mo (got preg with her on 3rd cycle trying), and we've been trying to 9 months for #2. Initially went to RE because of tiny fibroid, but AMH came back at .15, so he wants to be really aggressive.

Has anyone else skipped pills and gone straight to injectable/IUI?

How much did the injectable/IUI cycle cost? I have a call in to the billing office at my doc's office, but I'm curious what other experiences have been.

We're also going in to see doc next week. I don't know if I'm going to push for a cycle of meds (not injectable) first.

Any thoughts/experiences would be helpful!
