@snarkybiochemist: @Coral: @delight: @winniebee: Thank you :heart: Your support means a lot.

@winniebee: They put it at 6 weeks, but based on seeing the heart beat, not the length. As far as I can tell from a paper that I found on this, a crown-rump length of 2mm is about average for five and a half weeks, and falls below the 5th percentile by 6 weeks. I think I am around 6w4d (based on ovulation), when the embryo should measure around 8mm. Since I got a BFP at 11dpo, I don't think I can be that much of a late implanter... I know measurements can be off, but combined with everything else it doesn't seem promising...

I'm so sorry you are going through this. It sucks having to wait so long between appointments. I had a similar situation and unfortunately it was one of my miscarriages. At 8 weeks there was a HB but I was told it was low. They didn't give me an actual rate. I also had to wait two weeks for a f/u and at 10 weeks there was no longer a HB. I hope this is not the case for you and will keep my FX. Either way, you will find lots of support here.

@snarkybiochemist: @knittylady: @ocean81: @Iced Tea: @winniebee: Thanks guys, this is super helpful - I really appreciate it. I called and left a message for my nurse, and hopefully will be able to get a sooner follow-up appt. I tend to be deferential in these types of situations and hate speaking up, but I need to be better at advocating for myself.

I think probably that things aren't ok, and because the doctor also suggested I might want to be on bedrest for another complication, waiting around longer than necessary to find out is pretty costly. The doctor seemed convinced that everything is fine with the embryo, but I Know when I got my BFP so I have a pretty good sense of how far along I am, and based on that I think it's pretty unlikely that this is a healthy pregnancy. The embryo length was only 2mm, which is like first percentile for how far along I should be, and then there's the heart rate.

Ugh, so sorry you are going through this. I don't have personal experience with this, but agree with others that I would push to be seen next week. :heart:

I'm so sorry you are going through this.

My second pregnancy was similar--SCH, some bleeding, heart rate in the 80s at 6.5 weeks. I did miscarry a few days later. I hope it goes the other way for you.

I'm sorry you are going through this. The wait is so hard. Do you think you could request a follow up for next week? I had bleeding with my daughter at 7 weeks. Went in for an ultrasound and was prepared for the worst as her heart rate was only in the 80s. I went in for a follow up the next week and she caught up and her heart rate was normal. She's 22 months now. I know this can go either way, but I'm sending every good thought that you have the same experience I had.

ETA - my OB didn't put me on bed rest, just no sex, tampons, etc.

@periwinklebee: I'm so sorry you're in limbo. Such a hard place to be. I would also push for a sooner follow up. Easier said than done, but still.

Thinking of you and hoping and praying it all works out. :goodluck:

@Mrs. Lion: Thanks! Yeah, I really wish it wasn't such a long wait...

I tried to find some of the scientific literature on fetal heart rates, and it seems like regardless of what the doctor said that 85bpm is rarely associated with a good outcome - i.e. http://pubs.rsna.org/doi/abs/10.1148/radiol.2362040880?journalCode=radiology

I went in for an ultrasound today, based on ovulation I should be around 6w4d. They found a heartbeat, but it was only 85bpm. The ultrasound tech had a radiologist come in to look, and she told me that it was extremely worrisome to have the heart rate be that low and likely a sign of fetal distress. When I followed up with my RE afterwards, though, he seemed unconcerned about the heart rate and said it was more or less normal. In contrast, he said he was very concerned about my SCH causing a miscarriage, which the tech thought looked better (sigh).

My follow up scan is in two weeks. I know this is the sort of thing where it can go either way and there's just nothing to do but wait, but I guess I'm curious what others' experiences with this have been. Thank you! :heart:
