@Mrs. Yoyo: & @kiddosc: thank you both! i will look into those books =)

@birdieputt: i've never heard of scandinavian brancrisp bread, i'll have to see if i can find some to try! did you go super low card at the beginning while your body learned to not crave them & then reintroduce them in small healthy ways, or just go to the small healthy ways right off the bat?

i went on a low GI "diet" before conceiving. i had unexplained infertility and wanted to lead a healthier lifestyle. i ate lots of proteins, fats, and high-fiber complex carbohydrates and drank only water or herbal tea. i was really strict with myself and never had any soda, juice or junk food either. i also exercised every single day without fail.

for breakfast, i'd have a plain greek yogurt and some almond butter on scandinavian bran crispbread. for lunch, a salad with loads of protein (i'd avoid all the sugary dressings). for dinner, i'd have protein, vegetables/salad and a small scoop of brown rice or other complex carb. occassionally i'd eat pasta - but only if it was a high fiber pasta.

it was hard in the beginning, but once i cut out all the simple carbs and sugar, my body stopped craving those foods altogether. it definitely got easier over time. i'm glad i changed my lifestyle because it made it so much easier to maintain a healthy weight during my pregnancy and post-partum. good luck!

I was on my way to being diagnosed with PCOS after TTC for 9 months and started on a low GI diet after some good ole internet research. I got pregnant 2 months later, so who knows if it helped... I did lose a little weight though. We used this cookbook: http://www.amazon.com/500-Low-Glycemic-Index-Recipes/dp/1592334172/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1345145660&sr=8-3&keywords=glycemic+index+cookbook

Ever since then we've cooked most of our meals out of this cookbook. The recipes are really good and usually made with what you would have in your kitchen. I missed sweets a little bit with this diet, but would let myself have a treat a couple times a week and found that it really wasn't that difficult.

The low GI diet just looks like a healthy "diet" to me. Unprocessed carbohydrates (sweet potatoes!) and lots of vegetables and lean proteins.

Low amounts of processed/white carbohydrates and sugar decrease inflammation in the body...in general, it should create a better atmosphere to conceive. I know this was something my doctor promoted to treat my endometriosis.

Anytime you cut carbs from your diet, though, you'll definitely lose weight!

I did one briefly. I found this book really helpful:

http://www.amazon.com/The-Insulin-Resistance-Diet-Revised-Updated-Fat-Making/dp/0071499849/ref=pd_sim_b_1

I was also on metformin (and clomid) which probably helped, too.

i'm on a mission to do EVERYTHING i can to make our BFP happen, so i'm going to try to loose some weight. i need to loose some anyway, so now's as good a time as any! i've read that following a low GI diet is helpful if you have PCOS rather than just counting calories.

if you've done a low GI diet, how was it? what did your meals look like? did you find it worked better for you than a weight watchers or other weight loss plans? tips?
