@banana - Right, I think our situations were different because you only had spotting and I had AF. Your kiddos must've just needed a little boost (which I'm now thinking wouldn't have helped me).

@Mrs.Someone: Hmm..I didn't have a full blown AF. Just brown spotting with tinges of pink here and there. Yeah, it's amazing they're both here. My OB and nurse are surprised they both stuck with my low progesterone and hcg levels. I don't know.. I have no proof of anything but I just feel like the progesterone helped save both of my pregnancies. The 2nd time around, I asked for the progesterone right away because it worked the first time around.

@podomama - I did have the CD3 bloodwork done last month, and they checked Hydroxyprogesterone. From what I've seen in other places, its P4 that gets checked for pregnancies? Everything was normal though, and my LP is a normal length with no spotting.

@banana - I didn't have spotting until a few days after my low beta (spotting progressed pretty quickly to a full-blown AF), so that does make me feel a little better that it was more likely the embryo and not me... I find it amazing that both of your kids turned out healthy, you're a lucky lady :)

@podomama: Oh, I think you're right. Those were probably progesterone levels. My beta levels were really low too though, I remember. Because the nurse said that they should be doubling but they weren't (which would mean hcg levels, right?) And she said she was surprised that it still stuck!

@Mrs.Someone: I got a BFP and then started having brown spotting shortly after. I called the doctor and they told me to come in (they thought it might be an ectopic pregnancy). They took bw and told me my beta levels were really low. The doc prescribed progesterone for me but basically told me to be prepare for a miscarriage because of my super low levels. It was really hard but I had all of my hopes on the progesterone working. And i think that it did. I have no proof of this but I just feel like it did. So to answer your question, the only indication I had of low progesterone was the spotting.

@Banana: my first beta was a 32, my 2nd one was almost zero ....my progesterone was a 14. Even though my doctor prescribed progesterone I didn't take it because with hcg that low I knew it wasn't going to stick. I'm wondering if maybe the numbers your doctor gave you were progesterone and not hcg ?

@Mrs.Someone: did you get a fertility work up prior to ttc and had your progesterone level checked ? if it was normal then maybe that is why your doctor is not worried about your progesterone... mine were low to start with so that is why my doctor checked it along with my beta. Even if my progesterone was normal, my Doctor said since my hcg was so low I would begin to bleed soon... hope that gives you a little relief :)

@Alivoo01: Ditto! As soon as I had a BFP after my m/c, the OB had a standing order so I could go get blood tests every 2-3 days. That's how they discovered the dropping progesterone levels. I'm positive w/out it, it would have been a m/c again. And I will be definitely tested and likely use progesterone again for any future pregnancy.

@Mrs.Someone:  @podomama:  I'm so sorry you are both going through this right now.  {{{HUGS}}}

@podomama: I started on the suppositories, but it was causing major itching so the last couple of weeks they switched me to capsule pills. It was definitely a PITA but I would have done anything to keep the baby so I was really diligent about 2xs a day until they told me to stop.

@banana - Thanks for the info. Were there any other indications of low progesterone beforehand? Not sure how I would convince her that it was necessary to test if she wasn't willing the first time. It kills me a little bit to think that it could've been saved had she checked it when I first went in (like I asked).

@Mrs.Someone: When I was pregnant with my son, I had really low beta levels (17 at one point, and then 15). They gave me progesterone suppositories but didn't think it would work because of how low the levels are. Well, my son is now 2 1/2 years old! With my DD, my beta levels were low AGAIN (16 I think) and they thought I would miscarry. Enter progesterone suppositories. Well, she's 4 months old now. I guess some women just have low levels.

@podomama - My acupuncturist makes a special blend of tea based on whats going on with me at the moment. So shes given me Pre-O, Post-O, and this past week when it was evident something was up, she labeled it "Securing the Uterus". She did also mention CoQ10 when I started going, but I haven't really looked into it. When I try to (or accidentally) take probiotics though, I get awful stomach pains right away :P

@Mrs.Someone: I might look into the herbs again ( I did it before a few years ago), are you taking the herbs in pill form or tea form ? Oh btw, just wanted to add that I've been ttc for about 8 months (my first baby took 1 year), and couple things I started taking just a month or 2 ago are CoQ10 pills and probiotics. I have no idea if they helped at all but the CoQ10 were suggested by my acupuncturist, and the probiotics I started on my own.

sorry about the prior blank post, I tried to delete, but I guess it doesn't work =\

@Mrs.Someone: I'm in the same boat as you....I had a bfp on Saturday, then over the next few days it went to a bfn. =( Blood work confirmed it was going down. Today I started bleeding. It is disappointing to say the least, but I guess it is better it happens now then 2 or 3 or 4 months into the pregnancy... I also have been doing acupunture for about 2 months and I definitely think it helped to get me that far. Let's hope for a sticky one next time :)

@Alivoo01: I have low progesterone and was prescribed progesterone for my next bfp.... did you have suppositories ? or pills ? mind are suppositories and I am really not looking forward to doing that 2 times a day ! =\

@Alivoo01 - How far along were you when you lost?

It worries me that my doc wouldn't do anything about low progesterone, but at least I know I can talk her into testing it, then google the results. Maybe next time she will be more willing based on what happened this time (according to my chart though, progesterone should be OK). She did have me go in for followup b/w today and will be testing my thyroid and rh factor also.

@Mrs.Someone: @shopaholic: After my loss back in July, my OB told me to call her immediately once I receive another BFP so that she could prescribe my progesterone to help the baby stick. During my pre-BFP blood work, my progesterone levels were normal, but she still had me take the supplements when I got my BFP.

@Mrs.Someone: I knid of don't remember clearly now. HcG is the pregnancy hormone right? And progesterone is the one for the uterine lining? I think that my HcG levels kept going up, but the progesterone was falling low at the same time. Sorry if I confused you...
If it really is the HcG dropping, I read that taking progesterone can just stall and hide an impending m/c. Best of luck sweetie.

@shopaholic - The blood test was positive, but very low HCG (13). I'm retesting on Friday. I begged her to add progesterone to the tests on Friday also, and she agreed but said she wouldn't do anything if it was low. I'll find someone who will though if the beta is up but progesterone is low. Are you saying your HCG went down to 11 but was saved, or was it progesterone that went down that low?

Did the Dr. ever get a positive BFP on their blood test? After my m/c, when I got preggers again, they monitored my HcG levels. They noticed it started dropping, but didn't want to give me progesterone until it went below 11 (I think that was the #). I was going out of town and they told me to go ahead and come back for a blood test when I came back (5 days later). I asked to come back the NEXT DAY and it had gone down to close to 11 so I got the progesterone supplements right away. Thankful that they & I monitored it really closely. I'm SURE the dropping HcG is what caused my 1st m/c as the DPO and drop coincided at the same time. My tip is don't be shy about asking your Dr. for more test, info, etc. Whatever you need. Wishing you the best!

And don't take a digital test and assume hcg's going up (like I did!). I managed to find the one digital test that showed a positive with an hcg of 5.
