I had to take iron pills but they didn't really bother me. I've had to take them at various times over the years as my iron levels tend to be low. I tried to eat lots of fruit and veg to help keep me regular.

I know I wasn't feeling well for a while and figured it was low iron so I just took vitamins and started feeling less tired.

I just found this out and they are setting me up for an infusion. I hope that helps because I refuse to take the polls. I already take colace 2x a day. Did anyone have an infusion? I have to go into the hospital for it.

Often you can get enough iron to get you over the line by taking the supplement every other day- particularly if you do add lots of iron rich food to your diet at the same time. Might save you from the constipation.

I had blood drawn at my first appointment (8 weeks) last week, and my doctor called this morning to say I'm anemic. I'm supposed to take iron supplements twice a day and I'm dreading the ah, issues that are supposed to come along with that. I'm hoping the iron supplements and a more thoughtful diet will do the trick, though. My mom is also anemic and had to get injections during her pregnancy with my older brother and me.

I had low iron when I was pregnant with my son. I had to take prescription iron pills and yes, they were constipating! With this pregnancy, because of my gestational diabetes, I've been eating a lot of red meat so my iron levels have been fine.

I had low iron (it was an 8 at an appointment a while ago) and was prescribed iron pills. I have added iron-rich items to my diet because I'm constantly forgetting to take those darn iron pills. At my last check-up, I was a 16 on the iron test, so obviously the foods are helping! I would definitely ask your OB for a list of iron-rich foods and add them to your diet if the pills won't work for you.

My OB recommended Floradix, I have problems with constipation, so this didn't add to that issue for me. I wish I could have solved it by diet alone, but I couldn't eat enough iron rich foods to cover the deficiency I had.

Did anyone else end up with a low iron count from your late second trimester blood testing? I'm slightly below the accepted range, and my doctor requested I take a supplement. The pills make me sick, though. Was anyone able to correct a slight deficiency through diet alone?
