@sslm: I know the big O can cause uterine contractions, so I think that is part of why some people are told to avoid that. Even though it's super personal, I would probably just call and ask....and give a fake name when I did. :)

@MamaMoose: I guess they will tell us on Friday but I wondered if I should speak to my midwife to be safe!

Thanks everyone. I feel weird calling to ask such a private question! I hadn't even thought about orgasms being bad... Hmm.

I was put on pelvic rest for mine which meant no sex and no orgasms. Call your doctor and ask, or maybe see if you can schedule another ultrasound before your 31 week appt to check on it.

I had this issue a little earlier in my second tri and was told just to abstain from intercourse. (Also lifting heavy stuff and any exercise/yoga.) Annoying, but it did correct itself in six weeks!

I had a low lying placenta too. But the ultrasound techs always knew right away if it was still an issue and would tell me. I bet you'll know right away if it's still an issue!

I was told that I didn't even need to abstain. We were nervous about it and did anyway. I didn't have to wait as long for my second check, though. I don't think orgasms would affect your placenta enough to matter.

I'd call and check. When I was told to abstain after my CVS, I was specifically told no intercourse, including no orgasms.

I'm pretty sure it's just penetration :) can't see why other activities would put your placenta at risk!

I think it's penetration, unless she told you to abstain from other activities too.

At my 19 week ultrasound I had a low laying placenta. My midwife said it would probably move up and not be a problem, we go back to check on Friday at almost 31 weeks! Fingers crossed! Anyway, after some spotting last week I was told to abstain from sex until we find out if the placenta is still an issue.

Here's a tmi question. I should have asked my midwife, but does abstaining mean just intercourse? Is it the penetration that's the issue? Are other fun times ok?

We are going on a little baby moon this weekend and likely won't know the outcome of the us until next week. Just want to know if we can have a little fun!!!!!
