i seem to be the odd person out that was diagnosed at 11 weeks, which seems ridiculously early, but we have been told no intercouse till me 20 week scan...it's been a rough couple of weeks in all honesty. i'm hoping it moves by then!

@Freckles: Good to hear!

I just found out that I have it too and I have to go back in 8 weeks to see if it moved up. The on call doc gave me a 99.95% chance it will move up. *fingers crossed* :)

@Freckles: I was ok pelvic rest anyway for unrelated complications. They told me I had marginal previa and were confident that it'd move by 20 weeks. It did. They told me to use common sense-- no heavy lifting and to call for bleeding/spotting.

My story is the same as everyone else's, low lying at 20 weeks, moved up by the following check up ultrasound. They didn't give me any restrictions.

I had a low lying placenta at 20 weeks and had it checked occasionally (the pregnancy was already high risk for other reasons). At 28 weeks it was still low and I scheduled a c-section just in case but the 32 or 34 week u/s showed that it had finally moved.

I had placenta previa with my first, but it wasn't completely covering the cervix or anything, just positioned close to it. It moved out of the way and I didn't have any restrictions. Don't stress! It has time to move.

I was told I had complete placenta previa at 20 weeks and that I would most likely need a C-section around 39 weeks. I was put on pelvic rest and told to restrict my exercise. We had U/S every 4 weeks (there were also cord issues, so they were looking for growth restrictions) and at our last appointment (around 36 weeks) it had moved completely and we had a normal vaginal delivery. No bleeding and it never caused me or baby any problems (other than some added stress).

I was told I had a low-lying placenta at 20 weeks as well, but with no restrictions. My OB scheduled another ultrasound for 28 weeks and the problem had corrected itself! Hoping you are the same!

@Freckles: Considering they didn't even let me know until 4 weeks after the scan, you're probably okay with having had sex :). You would more than likely know of something was wrong, especially if you've had an otherwise uneventful pregnancy.

@Mrs. Jump Rope: @MamaMoose: When are you put on pelvic rest? If you're bleeding or having contractions?

@Weagle: @keiki_mama: @lamariniere: It's nice to hear that it moved up by your next ultrasound appointment! I know a c-section isn't a big deal, but i just want to make sure before my next appointment i don't do anything to put myself at risk. We're still unpacking and moving things around, and i'm the type who just prefers to do it than ask DH. I also panicked a bit when she said no intercourse, "err...what if i already did?" :silly:

I had a low lying one diagnosed around 20 weeks with my 1st LO. I had the same instructions as you and went back about 6 weeks later for a check. It had moved by then and was completely in a normal place and I could go back to all normal activities. I had a complication free L&D vaginal birth.

I was diagnosed with a low lying placenta at my 20 week ultrasound. I was scheduled a 28 week ultrasound to see whether it would move up on its own (very common) and it did. I wasn't given any restrictions. Had it not moved up on it's own, I was told I would have to have a csection. My placenta had moved up on it's own by the time 28 weeks rolled around.

@Freckles: The difference between low lying and previa is whether or not it actually touches the cervix. As long as it's not covering any part of the cervix, it shouldn't cause any problems. And at 20 weeks there is definitely still plenty of time for it to move up. Mine moved up considerably between 20 weeks and 28 weeks (when they rechecked it to decide whether or not it needed continued monitoring). I was really freaked out about it, but honestly, even if it doesn't move, all that means is you need a c-section, so if that's the WORST possible case, it's still not the end of the world. I was on pelvic rest, but I also had a sensitive cervix and preterm contractions so I was on pelvic rest anyway.

I had one, but they didn't even tell me about it until my next appointment. I had no restrictions, because it's pretty common and the majority move by 28 weeks (when the follow up scan typically is).

Just got a call from the nurse to let me know that i have a low lying placenta (i don't know exactly how far away it is from the cervix) as of my 20 week ultrasound appointment. I thought i read somewhere that they consider it placenta previa after 20 weeks, but i did see in a thread that the placenta ended up moving.

For those of you who had a low lying placenta or placenta previa, what was your experience? I was told no intercourse, lifting or strenuous exercise and to let the know if there was any bleeding. Are there any other symptoms i need to know about?

My next OB appointment is next week, but thought i'd see what others experienced.
