@ameliabedilia: daily?!?! Haha yeah that's definitely not going to happen.... BD or DH on his own, either way. He'd be too tired. Here's to hoping that every 2-3 days works out, because if it wasn't for TTC, we'd honestly only be at once weekly.

@ameliabedilia: how frequent is frequent ejaculation? And how much l-carnitine? All those other supplements should be in the Fairhaven FertilAid pills... thank you for your help!

Thanks for your input, @gingerbee! Glad you ended up with a BFP anyway :) what were your husband's other numbers, do you remember?

@sapphire: wow thank you for such a positive story! I'm still pretty cautious though, since I have PCOS and his count and forward progression were on the low end of normal...what were your husband's actual numbers?

I'm sorry to hear that. My husband got his results back today - only 8.4 million concentration and 3% morphology. I'm feeling pretty defeated right now. :crying:

@DesertDreams88: DH's morphology is 2%, so we're adding 300mg of ubiquinol (the bio-available form of coq10 - it's equivalent to 600mg of coq10). He's also not using his laptop on his lap anymore.

Remember that it takes ~3 mos to see "new" sperm, so any changes you make today won't be imminently effective.

@DesertDreams88: I should also mention that the RE really recommended that we give it time and quoted 10% chance of conceiving each month. She strongly recommended against any intervention. She also thought supplements were pretty pointless. We got pregnant on probably our worst month for timing...I think it really is an odd's game. Again, she said with morphology alone there wasn't anything to worry about and told us she'd probably never see us again. Which is so far true :)
I think if you can get your cycles regulated you have a great chance!

@DesertDreams88: my husband's morphology was 2% in November and we were referred to a urologist who put him on Clomid. That plus Fertilaid vitamins brought it up to 5% in 4 months when we saw an RE. Personally I would see both a urologist and a RE, but that's depending on insurance factors.

@DesertDreams88: Yeah, it's a big factor. That said, even though we have done IVF for years, we've never needed ICSI/PICSI or intensive cycles - just regular old sperm & egg in a test tube, and relatively normal fertilisation. (Though we have had a couple miscarriages too, as you know, so can't be sure whether it was sperm/egg or BOTH that contributed to those.)

Also, I'd say regular RE. We've never been referred to a urologist for hubby's results over the years. x

@ameliabedilia: how frequent is frequent ejaculation?

@travellingbee & @sapphire: thank you for the encouraging stories. His count is a bit low but within the normal range, and his motility is fine. So FX that that helps.

@jaguar: I thought of you when we got the results and wondered if that was the factor for your male factor. I ovulate even with PCOS, but late (CD17-30)

@jaguar & @ameliabedilia: I guess we'll be trying the supplements & frequent ejaculation, and a repeat SA in 3 months. But now I just really wonder if we should reevaluate my obgyn's metformin + clomid + progesterone treatment plan.... I don't want to "use up" my clomid cycles if morphology will prevent it now but will be better in the future. I'll call my obgyn tomorrow.

Who do you think we should be making an appointment with next.... an RE or a urologist? or both?

We're a PCOS + low morph/motility couple. I don't ovulate on my PCOS, and Jag's numbers are <3% (though they vary from sample to sample) - if you can get repeat SA in a few months, you may find things change a little bit. x

Super hugs. My huzz had low morphology - can't remember the stats, but we would have needed high level IVF (like cherry pick individual sperms, etc). I had jacked up hormones because of a brain tumor that affected my pituitary so I had issues even after surgery to remove the tumor. We had two miscarriages before spontaneously getting pregnant with DS. (We found out when I took a HPT before getting a trigger to force my period for an HSG for our RE testing...I hadn't had a period in a year and it was a precaution). So it can definitely happen - DH's morphology was a hot mess but he had high volume and numbers so the doctors said it was an odds game. Remember it just takes one!

DH has great numbers except 4% morphology. He is doing supplements (vitamin C, coq 10, selenium, zinc, b complex, and l-carnitine), and avoiding his laptop (would be on his lap for 2-3 hours/day). There is also some evidence that frequent wjaculation improves morphology. The plan is to check SA after three months of this. Big hugs!

Low morphology very unlikely to be a problem. Count and quality matter SO much more. We saw an RE to discuss this issue (my DH's same as yours). It took us 9 months to conceive but dud so without intervention.

My DH has low-ish morphology (3% I think). We've never had a problem getting pregnant... Just staying pregnant.

My coworker's DH had 0-1% depending on the sample and they just got pregnant spontaneously without any treatment!

I just got word that my husband's SA results came back, and his morphology is only 1.5%. From what I read, 4% is minimum and 15 percent is the median value. So he's not even close.

With a miscarriage back in October and a PCOS diagnosis 3 weeks ago, I am now just devastated. I feel like we lost our miracle baby and the odds look horrible for another one. IVF and ICSI are not options for us.

I don't have the time or the focus to search through threads right now, so if anyone has thoughts or info on low morphology, low morph + PCOS, next steps, and treatment options, I'd gladly appreciate them. For what it's worth, 55% of the defects were acrosomal, and none of the other categories stood out.
