@snowjewelz: I only found out about the Papp-a level because it contributed to a screen positive for Downs. I doubt they would have mentioned it otherwise!
@Beehive: that's good to know! We have our anatomy scan on 9/12 so I guess they'll check the placenta and growth again then.

@Beehive: that's reassuring!

I mean, no one even told me anything from any of the 1st trimester scans/screens/tests. The dr at the hospital where I got my anatomy scan done just mentioned it to me! I will def let you know what my OB says on Friday. I haven't had any blood drawn since all that 1st trimester stuff, so I feel like it's not something to be re-tested later...

@snowjewelz: I also have low papp-a levels, I found out at my 12 week nuchal translucency scan. They said I would have growth scans every 4 weeks to make sure everything was on track. They also said I might want to take a baby aspirin every day - has anyone heard that? Apparently tests are inconclusive as to whether it actually does anything, so I'm kind of inclined to skip it.

I had my 16 week early anatomy scan today, and I asked the doctor about his experiences with patients that have low papp-a. He said more than 95% of the time it's absolutely fine, so that was reassuring.

@MrsA: I asked at my 12-week appointment if they re-test to see if papp-a levels improve, and they said it's just a first trimester test they do once - not sure if that's the case everywhere though.

I had low PAPP-A - my dr basically said its nothing to worry about, dd was born healthy at 41 weeks 1 day.

@MrsA: I'll stalk you for an update, haha!

I also had the maternit21 test done, so I wonder if my OB never mentioned it since the other tests would've detected any abnormities?

But being at higher risk of pre-term labor/baby isn't a small thing either!

@snowjewelz: I have the anatomy scan in a couple of weeks so now I'm interested to see if they will give an update on the Papp-a levels then. Baby has been measuring right on track (a day ahead usually) so far!

@MrsA: Yeah, I'm assuming it wasn't a big deal since no one told me about this between 1st tri screenings and obviously baby looks fine at 20 weeks... But then the dr was throwing around all these other things so I was like uh what?? I hope all goes well at your next scan!!

I'm right there with you. This came up in my first tri bloodwork and contributed to a high risk screen for Downs. Later NIPT testing showed everything there was normal.
My OB said in her experience there's some minor issue with the placenta when this comes up. She's not very concerned. I'll have an additional scan at MFM at around 30 weeks. I'm only 16 weeks now.

Apparently I had this from my last round of tests (I just had my 20 week anatomy scan), I will be speaking to my OB about it later this week and going back in 4 weeks to follow up. I did not have this with my first baby.

What I've gathered from the internet is that while it does pose greater risks for small baby, early labor, etc most people seem to have been fine with extra monitoring?

Any experiences?
