It sounds like the blockage definitely has not cleared. Maybe try pumping that side also? If you get feverish, definitely go to the doctor asap. Mastitis is nasty.

@creativemomma15: I'm sure in a couple days you'll be back to being golden. From my understanding supply "issues" during this time will rely on prolactin triggers laid in the newborn stage so it's generally easier to increase supply after dips.

Oh... you could also try and up night nursing on that side. If I remember correctly prolactin triggers are laid more at night than during the day!

I think you're doing an awesome job!

@runsyellowlites: thanks for the encouragement! I didn't think of going back to the lower side once he has a little in his belly but it makes total sense. I appreciate the encouragement especially because I have my mom and mil both saying, maybe it's time to wean him. Sometimes I think I am ready to cut out some feelings but others times I am not! He is still my baby!

@Kemma: I have tried the dangle feeding but unfortunately my DS is a very picky nurser and knows just the way he wants to lay to nurse or else he just gets too distracted and won't eat. That is a good tip though!

Have you tried to clear the duct by nursing while hanging over your LO? It's not a very comfortable position but it does help to clear blockages! Otherwise I don't really have any further advice except that your supply will hopefully bounce back in a day or two!

I would continue starting each feeding on that side. Then switch to the "good" breast when he gets too frustrated and then back to the low supply breast after he gets a bit in his tummy so he won't "need" milk so quickly. Just giving the low supply breast more nurse time should help.

I go back & forth with my right breast as it's the one to dip if I get sick OR even if P only feeds off the other through the night. I can usually recover it in a couple days. P is 10 months.

So I had a post last night about a clogged duct and spent the evening feeling feverish, achy, and with a warm compress on the area. I usually pump twice after my DS goes to bed (it's how I keep my supply up) and noticed that my supply on my affected side seemed lower than usual. Now today, the fever and aches are gone but DS is getting frustrated nursing on the side with the clogged duct. I have been starting him on that side in hopes that it will help clear the clog but he gets frustrated too quickly and won't wait for the letdown. I pumped on that side after I tried to feed him and got nothing, barely a few drops.

Is there a realistic way to recover my supply on that side or am I going to be stuck nursing one-sided for awhile? Or, is it time to start weaning awhile? (He is 11 months old and we have a chest freezer FULL of milk)

What would you do? (Sorry for the book, I am new to the clogged duct world!)
