I think this sounds more like what they call "Fixing Pains" (at least in the UK. Do they have a similar thing/name in the US?). They're caused by the baby "fixing" itself into the proper position and going down into your pelvis more and more.
(Or as I like to think of it, since I'm from Texas... the baby is "fixin' to come out!")

BH contractions feel very strange. From what I'm told, they aren't supposed to "hurt" but I do feel some slight cramping with them here and there. Mostly they feel like your belly starts to slowly get tighter and tighter, and if you press on it, it's seriously like rock hard. To me it feels almost like there's a string attached to my bellybutton that someone is pulling tighter.

@JustlikeHeaven: yeah, i have NO idea what contractions feel like either, but a nurse told me it feels like a charley horse in my abdomen. and it doesn't feel like that.... so i'm assuming it's not a contraction hahaha.

the nurse did tell me to watch out for menstrual cramps. that's part of "pre-term" labor. she said to empty out your bladder and then drink lots and lots of fluid. (that may have been for the contractions).... non-stop doesn't sound good. definitely talk to your doctor. i had some pain, but my doctor was okay about it when i said it comes and goes and it's quick (doesn't last long)....

I'm 28 weeks and I've been having quite a bit of back pain also. Mine's in my lower back, and more when I first get out of bed, and at the end of the day. I fig that's from the extra weight and the stress the baby is putting on my body. I also feel occasional period like cramping, but my belly usually gets really really hard and tight along with them, so I assume they are BH. How often are your cramps? My Dr said it's normal as long as I'm not having more than 4 BH in 1 hr. Hope that helps.

I third it likely being Braxton-Hicks. I’m only 21 weeks, but have what you’re describing (the crampy feelings), although mine are often located higher. Doc said they are Braxton-Hicks and not to worry. Call immediately if you see blood/spotting, or if they become extremely painful. I do keep a log of when they happen so I can track if they are increasing over time or not.

As for back pain, does a heating pad or warm bath help? Does the pain from walking/stretching happen in your back, or more in your hips/pelvis area? I’ve had a lot of pain in my hips/pelvis and now have to go to physical therapy twice a week, which is helping some. That’s another option to look into if the pain increases –insurance will usually cover it. They do manual work on my back/hips/pelvis and sciatic nerve, and then I have exercises which do help to relieve the pain. A couple of easy things to look out for are to make sure when you are standing you don’t lock your knees as that puts more stress on your back (standing in a T formation will help to prevent you from locking your knees when you stand), and when sitting to make sure you have good posture and are not putting your weight unevenly on one hip/side on the other.

I agree with @crisark, it sounds like Braxton Hicks. But if you're worried it never hurts to call a doctor! I had a belly support thing, looks like a back brace, it helped with my back pain.

It is probably Braxton Hicks. Sounds like nothing serious. You will become more uncomfortable now and there isn't a whole lot you can do to prevent it :( Just continue to drink water and do what you can!!

I had period like cramps when I was 29 weeks too! Got scared and went to see my OB for monitoring. Everything was fine though.. I think it might just be a natural part of pregnancy.
If it concerns you, you should call your OB! Better to be safe than sorry!

This Sunday I will be 30 weeks pregnant. This week I have noticed an increase in pain. Like a "sore" pain. My lower back hurts by the end of the day - but today it has been bothering me since before I even got out of bed. It hurts to walk, stretch out for something (like a glass of water, while laying in bed), it hurts to get up or even sit down or bend down to get something off the floor.... like the millions of hair I leave around on the restroom floor after straightening it.
I would assume back pain is normal this far along and with having added 18 pounds on me since week 1 of pregnancy.

However at times I also feel dull like cramps very similar to period cramps in my belly area (under the belly button and above where my leggings sit.) They aren't any worst than regular period cramps (when I would feel them) they are very tolerable but just uncomfortable cramps.

Other than that my baby remains as active as usual.
is this just a normal part of the third trimester?
