I voted decline bc I assumed it would be super awkward. I just read about the networking opportunity though, so I'm changing my response to accept!

@MrsMcD: It's definitely just him trying to repay the favor!

And thanks to all of you for talking me into it...hoping to make a good connection...he's within our corporate development group, and I usually handle mergers & acquisitions within my department.

Ok...you gals convinced me. I'm going to go. I just felt a little awkward accepting the invitation, but it would seem a little rude if I declined outright. Plus...the networking thing is definitely a plus. He actually mentioned something about hearing about what I do for the company in his email and really did seem a like a nice (and not at all creepy) guy!

I personally wouldn't want to go also. I think for me I would be like being in the spot light for doing something "good" where I just wanted to do something nice and let it be that. I can also see being in his position that I do want to reward a nice person for being nice because I want to let nice people know that it's great that they are nice.

Very tough. I still choose to politely decline though. :D

@blackbird: haha I love it!

the other day we had a little fiasco and DH needed to get somewhere to deal with it, but I had the car that day - so a coworker lent him his car so he could take care of it. He kept insisting DH didn't need to repay him or do anything, so he got him a GC for a local coffee shop and anonymously stuck it in his mailbox ;)

I'm a big fan of repaying the favors.

Plus, never hurts to network!

I was short a quarter for my coffee today and a coworker said he had it...and I am tempted to go stick a quarter on his desk, ha!

I'd go. I think you'd risk seeming a bit rude if you said no, and going means making a connection with someone else in your company that may come in handy for networking later. Win/win! :)

@Mrs. Pen: Good point...I would probably try to repay as well.

@babyjmama: Hahaha...no creepy vibe! I just feel a little embarrassed taking the offer. He's actually a higher level person within my organization, and the lunch might be a nice opportunity to make a good connection which is always nice in a larger company!

At work, we have a cashless cafeteria in our building. You either load money onto your badge or pay with a credit card. Usually there's an option that will automatically reload your card when the balance reaches a certain point, but it hasn't been working very well lately.

While I was in line on Friday, the guy in front of me scanned his badge, and the cashier stopped him to let him know that he didn't have enough money loaded. He was super nice about it, and just let the guy know that he couldn't let him leave with the food unless he paid for it. The guy (who I didn't know) was also cool and just asked if he could leave his stuff there to run back down a few floors to grab a credit card. It's all just so silly, so I told him to put it on my tab. I knew I had enough money on my card and paid for his $6 lunch.

The guy must have grabbed my name from the cashier and emailed me today to thank me and now wants to treat me to lunch. I let him know that it wasn't necessary, but to pay it forward. He insisted on treating me. Should I go? I feel a little uncomfortable...I paid for his lunch and didn't have a second thought about it and certainly don't want or need to be paid back. What would you do?
