@mrskansas: I'm not sure about that specific test, but I also had one of about 40 results come back slightly elevated. I've asked four doctors now about it, and none have been concerned. Two have said it only would have been concerning if other clotting factors came back positive.

FX that's the case for this slightly high one for you too!

ETA: but I also decided on my own to go on baby aspirin because I did get a positive MTHFR result (which none have been too phased by, even though it's a homozygous result), and none have thought there's any harm in me taking that precaution.

And I have to say, my periods are SO much easier to handle now! TMI...but It's way less painful when you're bleeding vs. passing clots constantly!

@bees_knees: Yes those are my actual results. And I didn't think it was related to lupus because I thought they were only testing for clotting disorders, so your answer makes sense. I thought it was negative too but I was confused since it was elevated.
Thanks!

I had the lupus anticoagulant trigger once on a test for an RE. From my understanding it has to do with an increased miscarriage risk. They had me give myself some sort of blood thinner injections in my stomach to help sustain the pregnancy and, my understanding is, I would have continued (possibly the whole pregnancy?) if that had turned out to be a viable pregnancy. When I changed REs, they looked at my numbers and said I was not far enough over (or under, I can't remember) the limit that it was worth doing.

Sorry so vague. It was a couple years ago. But I have gone on to have a successful pregnancy without having to do the injections.

Good luck!

@mrskansas: I also had a bunch of tests and bloodwork done after multiple losses. I had elevated antiphospholipid antibodies and was started on daily low dose aspirin (81mg). Not sure if it was that or added progesterone that I also ended up taking, but my next pregnancy was successful. I don't know about lupus though.

I was a CLS (Clinical Laboratory Scientist) before I was a mom. The lupus anticoagulant actually has nothing to do with lupus the disease. If you test positive for lupus anticoagulant, it puts you at higher risk for thrombosis. But...are those your actual results in your post? If so, you actually tested negative ("not detected") for LA. The result that is abnormal is your PTT (partial thromboplastin time) which is just slightly elevated.

Also, I do have lupus and if it is that (I really, really don't think it is), I'm happy to answer any questions!

Doctor might refer you to a rheumatologist for additional testing. I have a positive ANA and no symptoms of lupus, however my rheumatologist tests me periodically for a bunch of antibodies, including lupus.

@periwinklebee: I'm not too worried. From my quick Google search, I have no signs of lupus although I shouldn't have looked it up!
I did call the doctor and left a message so I can get in to go over the results.

I don't know anything about this specifically, but I just wanted to say to not freak out too much about anything before talking with your doctor (I know, easier said than done). Lab results can be noisy and lab errors are not uncommon.

I know that lupus is one of those diseases that is super complicated to diagnose. There are literally hundreds of different indicators and any one thing alone I think doesn't mean much.

@mrskansas: did they check your ANA? Do you have any symptoms of lupus? After I had my daughter, I started displaying symptoms of lupus (it is common to have it and never know and for pregnancy hormones to kick it into gear). Did they test you for different antibodies?

My RE ordered some blood work last week & the results were just emailed to me. I haven't had a chance to speak with him yet about the results, but I wanted to see if anyone here had any insight.
Everything came back normal except the lupus anticoagulant. I have no idea what this means and it is barely above normal.

Does anyone have experience with this?
