I always ovulated around day 20 and had a 10 day luteal phase and we had no trouble getting pregnant.

I started charting after my first baby was born. I was still nursing but he was STTN when I started. My luteal phase was short at first, maybe just 8-9 days or so. Over the next few months it gradually lengthened and I was able to get pregnant again, while still nursing. I didn't try until my LP was maybe like 10-11 days and we conceived on the first try!

@bhbee: thank you for sharing. I've heard of people getting pregnant while nursing too. I really hope to maximize my chances so I am thinking of at least trying to day or night wean. We shall see.

I wasn't ttc until after I weaned anyway, but like you I started tracking cycles in advance. I had a lot of shorter lps until I weaned, then things got more normal. I was surprised it made a difference since by the end I was only nursing 1x a day.
I also know people who got pregnant breastfeeding though so maybe nothing to worry about?

@Kemma: thanks for responding! I hope you're right because I really don't want to ween my son until he is ready. I may have to cut back though if there is an issue. We shall see.

Prior to falling pregnant my cycles were similar with ovulation around 20-22 and a 11-13 day luteal phase although I'm still waiting for the return of AF at almost thirteen months pp. It took twelve months to conceive Miss A but two girls I know both fell pregnant their first cycle while still breastfeeding so it does happen!

We plan to start TTC in January but I am starting to chart early so we can plan good timing. Particularly important with a 14 month old around. I have noticed that my cycles have changed. I used to ovulate on day 15 and have a temp spike on 16 then usually have a 12-14 day luteal phase or 29 day cycle. Now I've noticed I am ovulating on day 20 and then have a 10-12 day Luteal phase making my cycles about 31-32 days long. I am still nursing my 14 month old and he nurses quite often though he does eat some solids. Did anyone have a similar experience? Did you have trouble getting pregnant?
