Ooh, ice cream! Boston has more ice cream stores per square mile than any other city in the US! And it's also delicious! I read that somewhere. Anyway, the best in the Boston area, IMO, are Christina's and Toscanini's. Awesome and very unique flavors. Fab fab fabulous!

If you do make it to Dennis, check out Sundae School for ice cream, very good and very busy (so busy they have traffic and parking attendants!)

@MrsH: I LOVE Boston but haven't lived there in a few years. Some of the more unique places I'd recommend are:

- Drink. One of the best cocktail bars in the country.
- Legal Harborside. You probably know the Legal chain, but this new iteration with its waterside deck is so beautiful. There's no other restaurant like it.
- Kelly's Roast Beef at Revere Beach. It's a chain now, but the Revere Beach location is the original. Definitely get the lobster roll and clam chowder.
- Neptune Oyster. This is THE best place to get a lobster roll (I prefer the CT style over the ME style)! Beware the lines, though.

I could go on and on! It's my favorite city!

Oh, also - here are two of my favorite and most trusted Boston-area food blogs:

http://www.tinyurbankitchen.com/

@MrsH: good! I think it's definitely worth driving the length of the Cape - the outer cape (Truro, P-town) is beautiful, and a lot less crowded. The Cape Cod National Seashore beaches are beautiful.

ohh I definitely second Sesuit Harbor Cafe. For dinner in the same town we like Chapins. Dennis has great beaches too, our favorite is Mayflower Beach. The thing is, Dennis is about 1/2 way down the Cape, about 30 or 40 mins from Buzzards Bay.

My ILs live in sandwich and often take DD to heritage museum & gardens. Downtown sandwich has gotten pretty cute, you can walk around and check out the grist mill and hoxie house. For RI I prefer the tiverton/little Compton area. It's much quieter than Newport, so it's the perfect place to do nothing.

I'm not from the area but I had to jump in and say that if you go to Rhode Island, definitely go by Jamestown and go to the lighthouse. It's absolutely beautiful and then Jamestown itself is a nice little town to walk around in and get something to eat.

@MrsH: You have to take the ferry off to Martha's Vineyard (can buy tickets day off), which goes into either Oak Bluffs or Vineyard Haven. If you're traveling with a LO, Oak Bluffs might be your best choice. There's a super old carousel there, an arcade, lots of places to eat, the docks, etc. You can also take the public bus around the island to other towns - Edgartown is nice too.

For Rhode Island, Newport is an awesome area to visit!!

@MrsCB: thanks! I love lobster rolls! DH and I live in the Midwest but we get lobsters sent to us FedEx so we can get them as fresh as possible :)

There's an awesome place for lobster rolls in Dennis called Sesuit Harbor Cafe. DH and I are serious lobster snobs, and this place is one of the few we really really like. It's a very casual, picnic tables outside, kind of place. Also gets really busy!

If you like cute towns to walk around, Chatham is great. Lots of cute little shops and restaurants. But beware of Chatham beaches, those are the ones famous for shark sightings.

I saw the Boston threads recently and it's prompting me to ask about great places to go/eat and things to do in MA and RI. We are going at the end of June and I'd love to hear your recommendations.

We will be staying near buzzards bay but plan on driving all over :) including to the cape, etc.
