@Eko: Where exactly are you supposed to enter the information? It looks like Sch HC just asks for taxpayer and spouse information, not even a line for dependents. Unless I am looking at the wrong form! We prepared in Turbotax and I don't remember entering health care info for either kid and I don't even remember seeing their info on our 1099 either.

@Eko: Do you think that since you entered it onto the federal form, it just transferred over to the state form so you don't need to enter it again? If I recall correctly, turbotax will just pull a lot of the information over when you do both federal and state returns on their site.

@psw27: yeah I did call and the person said it should be fine. I think what is tripping me up is that I looked on the MA website for instructions on filling out the forms and it says that I should be entering his information in. I normally do trust turbotax, but may just go talk to someone.

@Eko: I wouldn't worry about it too much! Turbotax is pretty accurate about guiding you correctly. Can you call them and ask?

@Madison43: right!
@psw27: yeah I got the tax insurance forms for him.

@raspberries: our LO was born in June! It is really weird that it is not asking since it is mandated. It listed our household as 2 and not 3, so it has me weirded out. But, I got all credits. who knows. I'm was doing it through turbotax and I might just go to a in person tax specialist.

I live in MA and it didn't ask us either - was your son born in 2015? The only thing I can think of is that since our LO was born in July, maybe proof isn't required yet?

Hmm that's weird... does your 1099-HC reflect that he was covered? I don't think they actually check it that carefully IMO. Also, they don't even require that you attach the 1099-HC so they don't verify that what you are saying is true. I would just skip it and attach the 1099-HC and hope that they figure it out. Are you filing electronically?

I'm not in MA anymore but believe bc the state mandates health insurance for all individuals, you need to prove that each family member has coverage by entering the insurance info for each. You won't have to do it for the federal bc it's a state requirement.

So I am trying to file my tax returns and for some reason my state tax return is not asking for me to enter in my son's health insurance information. He is listed as a dependent and I get the tax credit, and the federal looks good....but it's not prompting to ask for his health.

does that sound right? because it doesn't to me.
