I got mine last spring of 2011, and it freezes up on me a lot :( It also takes about 4 or 5 minutes to reboot (which I think is pretty abnormal, right??), if it even reboots at all. Sometimes I have to restart it twice in a row. Blah, maybe I got a lemon!

I'm still using the one I've bought at the beginning of 2008, and it has been used hard as it was my law school computer. The only thing I've had to do is move some stuff to an external hard drive to clear space on my macbook, but that's mostly because I take a lot of DSLR photos. I also just had to replace the battery and power cord. They told me the batteries generally last about 3 to 3 1/2 years, but mine made it 4 years.

I've had mine since 2008, used daily and no real problems. DH's is from 2007 and the battery died (our fault- because we didn't use it for a few months and forgot to disconnect the battery) but also works no problem when plugged in. We both got free power cord replacements, even though there was no problem with the old ones. :)

I had mine since Jan 2008 and I have had lots of little issues with it. It crashed on the first day I bought it and I had to take it in to the store. It has crashed many times since then. I do use it heavily. I have had to replace the power cord twice although now there is a class action law suit for that and i might get reimbursed for that.
The plastic cover inside cracked and i was told this was a common problem.
Overall I havent been as happy with it as I thought I wouldbe considering I spent over $1300 on it but I do like apple laptops and I plan to get another one soon. The main thing that keeps me loyal is their customer service and the free repairs I always get

Oh I just remembered I had to replace the battery too, my old battery just died on me with zero warning

@lydg: Time machine is really simple to use, just buy any external drive and plug it up to your computer and set Time Machine up to back to the drive whenever you connect the drive. The first time make take hours but if you do it often enough, its pretty fast.

I've had my macbookpro since 2008, and its working great even after the hubby spilt some soda onto the keyboard but its not my main computer, I also have a iMac. My BIL has one from 2006 before it was intel and he still uses it.

@bluestriped bee: I think I've put the max amount of RAM allowed on my Macbook. I thought it was because I had a lot of browsers opened up at once, but even after I restarted (which was also a pain!), it would still be slow! Seeing that pinwheel drove me crazy! I also was running out of hard drive space but managed to clear out 60gbs, and it was still slow! Good thing DH let me have his old Macbook Pro, though I'm sure I'll find some way to mess it up somehow! Hahahaha. Thanks for your help!! :D

@cranberryapple: You should look into upgrading the memory (Ram). It cost me about $50 to upgrade the memory on my macbook. It was superfast. It was like I had a new computer again. You could pay someone to install it but I'm pretty techy and was able to install it on my own.

If things start going slow, I always check out my memory usage. Also, almost all of the internet browsers use a lot of memory when you have more than 4 or more tabs open.

The Macbook that I commandeered from my husband...I mean, that we share...is from 2007/08ish. He can't remember. The battery is starting to pop out and we have a large external hard drive to supplement it, but it's going strong!

I have a macbook that I bought in 2006. It's still running. I don't use it as my primary computer since I bought a mac mini. My macbook has done her time and I have somewhat 'retired' her. Haha. She now is connected to my TV so we now stream shows.

I've had my MacBook Pro since 2007 and it's doing great!

Well, once I travelled with it and honestly didn't pack it with enough care... Ever since then, the top piece (screen) got progressively detached from the bottom piece (keyboard). Took it to the Genius Bar and even though our warranty was already up, they said that since we were loyal customers, they'd replace the entire top half for free. The bill showed a credit of $600. love Apple!

I've had mine since 2007-2008 -ish? I've had storage issues, so I keep having to buy external HDs for all my pics ever since the DSLR camera, but other than that I love it. I hope it lasts forever b/c I can't convince DH to get me a new one! ;)

I've had mine for almost 2 yrs & the only issue I had was the power cord stopped working, so they gave me a brand new cord at no cost. My mom uses an old one that was my dad's, it must be 6-8 years old. She has to leave it plugged in most of the time, but other than that, it's still going strong! My Mac desktop is old too, but no issues with it. I <3 apple!

I bought my macbook pro in 2009. The major reason was the fact that "it lasts a long time" and I wouldn't need to upgrade or it wouldn't die out on me... it's held up really well, but I've also not overused it like I did with PC laptops I've had before...

I originally bought it when I thought I was going to be law schooling full-time, but now it's just for part time mba/leisure use.

How often have you had to replace your macbook?
