@jetsa: it took me forever to figure out what worked for me! And even now, I aim for ranges. My breakfasts are almost always higher in fat than other meals! Unless I do non traditional stuff.

@jetsa: Try using only 1 whole egg and maybe 1/2 a cup of egg whites, much less fat

@blackbird: @Banana330: thanks. I thought I was doing good with cheese and eggs which have close to the same number of grams of fat and protein, back to the drawing board :)

@jetsa: grams are different for each! Carbs and protein are 1 gram=4 calories. Fat is 1 gram=9 calories

it's doing the split by calories in each not number of grams. Fat has 9 cal per g, protein has 4g, carbs have 4 g

@blackbird: I'm so confused. At 50/25/25 shouldn't I have the same amount of grams of fats as proteins? I've attached screenshots from MFP. It's showing 126g protein and only 56g fats

There is absolutely no need to stick to a maximum for protein. I'd love to be able to hit 50% protein, personally. I try to stock up on the lean meats, and also dairy. I really enjoy greek yogurt over a big bowl of strawberries with a few chocolate chips in there. Mmmmmm tastes like ice cream.

@jetsa: if i eat healthy (ie not chinese food for breakfast like today, LOL), i never eat the calories I "should" while nursing, so I do a protein bar in the afternoon. 300 calories worth...20-some protein grams. Works for me!

@blackbird: no a protein shake was on my list of things to figure out this weekend. I think it'd be a great breakfast during my commute. Cottage cheese is a good one too!

@jetsa: even so, 40/40/20 isn't bad! a little more protein is definitely attainable. So, obviously your lean meats are good add-ins. I'll do turkey sausage and eggs at breakfast--yes, higher in fat, but i make up for it by eating something lower fat later. Are you opposed to adding a protein shake? You can even mix it with liquid egg whites to seriously boost it. That's just an easy one. I also eat cottage cheese if you're eating dairy. 20-some grams in a cup.

I don't know how many grams you're at, but if you divide it by your meals, it might break out to an even number that you can shoot for at each meal.

another easy one is a bunch of veggies, some lean meat (ground turkey!) and egg whites in a bake. I'll use feta or something tangy and sharp tasting.

Breakfast meatloaf! Ground turkey breast....season....bake.

@blackbird: I'm having a really hard time getting enough protein. I just kind of jumped into it and didn't change how I was eating and my days typically are more 40/40/20 so less fat more protein. I guess probably chicken breasts and that type of thing? I thought boiled eggs but there's a lot of fat in eggs which I hadn't realized. Essentially I'm just very new to counting macros.

@lilyann: that's good to hear that it's taken you awhile to learn :)

@JoJoGirl: perfect thanks!

Do you know how many grams per macro you are wanting to hit? I am 5'7, 129lbs and looking to build muscle but lose fat. I am at 130g P / 200g C / 50g F, around 1660 calories.
I always find it hard to hit my carbs but I can easily go over in fat. It has taken me months to learn what works and what doesn't!

I try to hit 40/30/30. There are TONS of paleo/primal resources online that can probably help - Mark's Daily Apple, Paleo Leap, PaleOMG, etc.

I can totally help. What do your days look like currently? What are you over on? I always use the pie chart option in MFP for this

I've always been told 25% protein max if you're breastfeeding!

I am trying to be conscious of my choices but more so than just calories but macros as well. Currently I have MFP set on 50/25/25 carbs/fat/protein and I'm having a hard time with it.

Can anyone give me some go to foods for this type of eating?
