@autumnlove: There is a swap page of facebook that is pretty big. There have been scams like any online sales but as long as you go through paypal you are pretty protected.

@Coco Bee: thanks! since I just had the newborn all-in-ones so far, I'm brand new to the world of pocket-stuffing and doublers. Honestly, I look at all my inserts and I'm a bit overwhelmed. Which ones go with which diapers (well, some have tags) ? And are these ones the extra soaker pads I bought or did I even buy extra soaker pads? It will be a new thing to learn. I'll be trying it out one night at a time. And, hmm, I wonder if I can fit an extra soaker pad into my Grovia newborn AIOs because they do fit great but he even out-pees them in the day half the time.

@Coco Bee: Never thought about how annoying it would be to re-adjust a whole stash of elastics. Something to think about re my love of the CBananas.

@cvbee: I found with my son that he's a big-nightime-wetter. If he wears a fuzzibunz to bed we triple stuff it! I put two microfiber inserts in it, then I put either a minky or organic cotton doubler on the top. It's worked really well! I've also used a grovia hybrid with organic cotton insert, cotton doubler and a prefold and that works as well. I suggest trying a few doublers as it sounds that may be the problem as opposed to the diaper.

And he will grow into BGs, though they're not *my* favorite diaper. I think in general it's nice to have a variety because as they grow, their needs change. A diaper that fits great now in the 0-6mos period, may not work at all when they're a year old. I do plan to keep a few fuzzibunz on hand to try again in a few months, or maybe for the next baby.

@mrsjyw: I love the Grovia AIOs!! They are another one of my favorites! But too expensive for us to buy as our main diaper.

As for the BG's, I had decided against them because I had researched them and most people said that by the time their LO was potty-trained the elastic had completely worn out, and I really wanted a diaper to last to my next baby. We have one BG and I don't mind it, but not in love with it.

@Thehistoryofus: yup - we have some hybrids too! They worked well his first few weeks because his skin was soo sensitive he developed rashes from anything other than the organic cotton.

@skibobrown: yeah same here. Funny thing was the elastic adjustment was something I liked when I researched them - now it's a huge pain. As he grows you have to adjust every diaper. I've found I get a better fit with the snap down rises anyway.

This is an interesting thread.

I did one kind of NB stash: grovia AIO newborns. I did agonize over whether to get all one kind for that, but in some ways I think it made the beginning of cloth diapering easier because we only had to figure out the fit for one type of diaper. At first I thought things were really bad (leaks), but I just hadn't figured out how to fit them properly.

For the 'big boy' stash, I have a variety. I've just started introducing the big ones for overnight. I liked the fit of Charlie Bananas and they contained the mess and heavy wetting well. Fuzzibunz held the wet in better than the NB diapers, but not as well as the Charlies. And when I tried the Bum Genius, he ended up in a puddle (major leak!). (I have not tried our Happy Heinies yet). At first I wanted to jump to the conclusion that I should round-out my stash with Charlie Bananas, but now reading this thread I'm thinking I should wait til he's bigger because he might grow into the BGs.

Since babies are always growing, at what age can you determine which diapers fit best?

My friend gave me a few different diapers at my baby shower. It was great. I loved the fuzzibunz perfect size but not the one size. We had a few bumgenius but those seemed to irritate his stomache. We have invested in Grovia and those seem to work perfectly. We are currently in sposies for night time because of diaper rash and the creams we put on at night for that. But, I think we can go back to cloth soon.

@Coco Bee: I've also had lots of problems with leaks from our Fuzzibunz diapers. I've managed to troubleshoot some of the issues by always making sure the insert is stuffed down into the diaper, and not peeking out the back. I also sized down the legs even more than what was suggested by the instructions. We still get some leaks, but not as many anymore. I'm still not crazy about those diapers though b/c they are definitely made of flimsier materials than BumGenius, and sizing them with the elastics is a huge PITA. Plus, the BumGenius diapers worked from day one, unlike Fuzzibunz.

@skibobrown: It was actually fuzzibunz. I loved them before he was born and I know they work for so many other babies, but they just didn't work for us. Thankfully I didn't actually spend TOO much on them. I first bought them during their buy 6 get 2 free promo, bought a few on fluff swappers that were new and a few used, and bought several on zulily, so I never paid full price for any of them, thank goodness!
We will try to recoup some of the cost, there is a local cloth diaper store that is willing to buy used items, I also might use craigslist.
@Mrs. Jacks: I bought them from so many different places though, it didn't seem repelling was an issue. Just didn't work for my son. But they work for my nephew. Every baby is so different.

We had bought one bumgenius and I do like that one too.

@Coco Bee: I lucked out and am happy with our brand! I only bought Bumgenius 4.0 pocket diapers. I bought them either on clearance (buy 2 get 1 free) or gently used from cottonbabies.com. We have been using them for 2.5 months. I have had some buildup which led to a few leaks, but I know it is my detergent so they are being stripped right at this moment.

Oh no! Which brand was it, if you don't mind me asking? I bought an initial stash of 2 brands -- Fuzzibunz and BumGenius OS pocket diapers. At first when she was really tiny I loved the Fuzzibunz, so I bought even more of them. Now I'm regretting that decision b/c it turns out now that she's a normal-sized baby I like BumGenius so much better. But since we have so many Fuzzibunz I use them anyways. I'll probably cave and buy some more BumGenius at some point, but for now I'm trying to get by on what we have.

Can you sell your diapers back to a cloth diaper company as used diapers? At least that would help you to recuperate some of the initial cost.

I read on multiple blogs to never settle on ONE brand of cloth diapers before the baby is born because every child is different and not every diaper works for every child. Well, given that info I was well-researched and knew what brand was "best"..
I bought like 22 diapers of the same brand, and the week we put DS in them, his bottom broke out in a terrible rash. So we had to put him in disposables til his skin was less-sensitive. Then, the diapers leaked all the time. It didn't matter how often we changed his diaper (even every 1-2 hours!). So we double-stuffed them, which made half his clothes not fit. Then, they started digging into his sides so much so that he actually got a scab on his waist, and causing deep red marks on his legs. We kept trying to readjust them, but no matter how loose we made it, it didn't work - until we made them SO loose that he was leaking and blowing out of his diaper all the time.

Good grief.

So LESSON LEARNED.

We are now spending another $300 just to get a whole new brand of diapers (which, by the way, we KNOW we love. We bought one to test it for a couple months!).

Did you buy all one brand? How did you decide? Did it work for you?
