we've been using it since LO was 3 months, she'll be 6 months next week and I fear the day we need to stop. she rolls over but has not tried in the suit. once she does, we will stop and I will CRY!! we use it for night and naps. we tried sleep sacks and they just did not work for her. I'm hoping we can get a few more months in the merlin

We used it with GREAT success until she was 5 months old and started rolling over in it. Sigh. It was a sad day

@meganmp: haha not stupid! And the having to put him in it for every sleep is kind of what got me thinking about when we could ditch it (although it's much easier for me than swaddling was...I was not a swaddle master!)
@Trailmix: great tip!!! I have to run it through the dryer for two cycles! I'm hoping that once he can roll over that we can switch to just a sleep sack, too.
@Mrs. Chocolate: so far it's been really great for us, too! I've used it to help the transition from RnP to crib and it just seems snugglier than the swaddle :) And it is definitely roasty toasty! Which is good for is right now bc our apartment is kind of drafty. @Sammyfab: I have seen him kind of arch his back and try to turn to his side and I wonder if the suit it inhibiting him, but I think he may still be a bit young to be able to turn over from back to front, too. We shall see! I definitely think he'll be a side or tummy sleeper, though :)
@Revel: good luck with the transition!!!

We loved/love the magic sleep suit! We started when she was 3.5 months old to wean off the swaddle and it worked great. About a week ago (6.5 months) we switched to a sleep sack for night sleep. Her sleep has been crap so we've been trying everything to fix it, plus I thought I might as well transition while her sleep was poor anyway. And she is getting close to rolling even in the sleep suit (rolls easily without it) so I know our days are numbered with it. The transition has been pretty easy. We still use the magic sleep suit for naps and have been getting good naps recently.

We used the sleep suit from 4.5 to 6 months old, so not a very long time. But it was well worth it because our transition out of the swaddle and then into a sleep sack was completely seamless and we had zero disruptions in sleep. I sold our sleep suit to another HBer but I wouldn't hesitate to buy another for our next baby!!

I would just say to transition out when you feel ready. I can tell you that my LO was late to roll and he actually didn't roll until after we took off the sleep suit...and then he only rolled in his crib. He immediately became a side/tummy sleeper at that point.

I got it around 4-5 months and used it til he was practically a year old. the only reason I stopped was 1) he had started to be able to flip on to his tummy and I was worried he would get stuck 2) it was starting to get too warm I felt as we headed into summer 3) he was really starting to outgrow it size wise. Honestly I would have used it forever if I could have it was such a lifechanger for us.

We used them from 3.5 months until 6 months, loved them! We stopped bc my twins outgrew the 3-6 month size and rather than buy the bigger ones, we decided to switch to sleep sacks to let them sleep on their tummies since they were rolling around. Mine slept great in the Merlin suit tho, made the transition out of swaddling seamless, a part of me wishes I'd bought the bigger size and kept going with them since in some ways, we got better sleep with them than we do now! One tip is to turn it inside out in the dryer, otherwise it took forever to dry!

We used them! Loved them. We didn't start until 5 months ('cause I'm stupid), and then weaned them off around 9 months. It really, really should have been earlier. I took them out because I was just sick of depending on the suits for every bloody sleeping time, and it was ridiculous. I know I'm not helpful, but don't follow my lead of waiting that long:)

For those of you who used the magic sleep suit, how long did you use it for? What made you decide LO was ready to ditch it? Did you ever go back to it?

DS is 15 weeks and we just started using it with pretty good results so far and I was just kind of thinking ahead :)

Any other advice/tips/thoughts would be appreciated, too!
