could you change your name legally but use your maiden name professionally?

@artbee: Ditto to this, if I took my husband's name. If this is the only reason you're thinking about changing it back, I wouldn't.

I guess I just have to get used to having a more common name. At least people don't have to roll their R's any more.
Thanks everybody. I feel better about it now.

I really wouldn't worry too much about it. I'd hope your clients are smart enough to realize you're not a porn star. Personally, I wouldn't want to give up my name because of someone else. I want to have the same last name as my husband and LO, and no porn star is going to stop me from having that!

@oliviaoblivia: Ahh, I see. I don't think I'd really worry about it. People will figure out that the porn star isn't you and then it'll just turn into a big joke how you share the same name. If you've already changed your name to your married name AND you like your married name, just go with it! Soon enough, you'll be at the top of the Google Search and the porn star will be buried.

I would just start using all three names professionally. I made my maiden name my middle name and all of my professional correspondence (emails, business cards, etc) have all three names listed.

@Adira: My professional license has my married name on it. If I ever wanted to start my own firm I'd have to use that name. Unless I legally change back.

@NYCaliMama: Funny. First thing DH said was "you're prettier."

Adding my maiden or hyphenating eliminates the problem. I just feel weird caving to the internet. I had been looking forward to having a married name since I was little, I don't want to have to give that up because some woman put her hoo-ha on the interweb.

Don't know why I didn't think to google this before. Ugh.

Could you just continue to use your maiden name with your clients? Or would you need that to be your official name for your dealings with them?

Do you look anything like the porn star? Lol. I think maybe your clients would figure it out that it's not you? How about using your name like this: First Name, Maiden Name, Married Name... Would putting your maiden name in the middle all the time eliminate the porn star results?

I never questioned changing my name when we married. It was something I always wanted to do. I love my maiden name but really like using my DH's name.

When googling my maiden name, most posts are about me and my professional career. I have a more unusual name and it's been nice having it all to myself.

I just googled my married name and discovered that I share a name with a bondage porn star. I didn't expect anything about me to pop up yet, but REALLY don't want my clients to google me and see what I saw yesterday.

Now I have an icky feeling about using my married name. Should I switch back?
