Oh man I feel like I hurt my kids weekly!! Usually for me it's that I scratch them or poke them with a fingernail or something while goofing around or getting DS dressed! My nails aren't even long but they are strong. DS is like a little honey badger at diaper changes and clothes changes soooo it's hard! I have to hold him down and apply some pressure (to get him to stay) but he inevitably gets wiggled free and it's a mess of his legs/arms and my hands trying to get the job done.

@lady baltimore: Oh man! This reminds me of the time DD who was about 3 at the time "hurt" her finger and wanted a sympathy bandaid. I caved and let her have one even though nothing was wrong. Fast forward 1 week later and she is SUPER attached to this bandaid, I keep telling her we need to take it off but no dice.. Then I notice the finger that it's on is a weird color, like sort of discolored and white-ish -- I took the band aid off and she had been twisting it so tight around her finger all week that she had cut off circulation to her finger and there was a disgusting mess of a wound (where one didn't even exist before!) and she almost lost her finger!

I accidentally pulled my daughters arm out of the socket at the elbow last week. Her arm used to come out fairly easily (it happened twice when she was 2-3 years old super easily, literally once was when someone hugged her) so I never pull her up by the hand/arm. She has kind of low muscle tone and is pretty heavy now so I’m especially careful not to. She was throwing an epic tantrum last week and refusing to go in her room to cool off. I went to pick her up and she put her feet in my face and pushed me (really, it was one for the books—she’s not usually like this) so I took her hands to pull her up instead—I wasn’t thinking about her arms, but rather that I needed to get her to her room ASAP so she could be alone and cool off. She made her body go completely limp so her 48lbs pulled down while I was holding her hand. As soon as I realized I was holding her hand and she had put her dead weight in the other direction I just knew something bad was going to happen and looked down and saw her arm was out (it just looked bizzarly long). She was screaming and screaming. It was doubly awful because we had been butting heads and then this happened. We had to call my FIL to come put it back in. Even worse: the next day DD2 was getting ready for bed with me (I caved and let her sleep in my bed) and things were fine and dandy. I went to plop her on the pillow and she lurched forward and her head slammed into the wall (we don’t have a headboard). I heard her scream and saw that her head made a dent in the wall and visions of lacerations and facts about home much head wounds bleed rushed into my head. Turns out the wall is super soft there and easy to mark up and she cried for ten seconds and didn’t even have the slightest bruise but man did I feel like a terrible parent that weekend.

I feel so bad, I just need to vent! :bummed:

LO was trying to climb in her closet last weekend, and she fell and scraped her ribs. It looked like rug burn at the time, but I covered it with a big bandage because I thought it might be uncomfortable rubbing against her clothes. LO tends to wear band-aids until they just about fall off, and though I mentioned once or twice that we would have to take it off soon, I didn't think much about it. This evening, one corner of the bandage was loose, and I could see that the skin was irritated, so I ripped it off after bath time. It looks SO MUCH WORSE, red and raw and weepy! I guess the big bandage kept it all sealed up, and it just looked terrible. We lubed her up with antibacterial ointment and wrapped it in gauze, but I feel so awful that I didn't change the bandage sooner. If it doesn't look much improved in the morning, I am calling her pediatrician to see if we need oral as well as topical infection prevention.

Anyone else want to make me feel better and tell me how you basically injured your own child? :crying:
