Thirding on the Sephora appointment!

Being in dance/theater I've got stage makeup down pat. But regular everyday makeup, looking professional for work - I had no idea. I have rosacea and REALLY sensitive skin so everything was painful for me to wear. I recommend making an appointment, the makeover is 'free' when you buy $50 in makeup (easy to do there!)

They will try to sell you 10 products when you only need 5, but they expect that so don't feel too pressured (the makeup artist specifically told me they do not work on commission).

I've done this three times, including for my wedding makeup and when my favorite pressed powder was discontinued. I most recently made a day of it starting with a mani/pedi and then got my makeup done - made me feel like a million bucks

Sokoglam just did a whole blog about treating breakouts from PCOS! Not make-up, just skincare but I saw a bunch of testimonials from IG that korean skincare was the only thing that helped their skin!

I have a palette from Maskcara and I'm really not the contouring kind but I love that 1 palette gives me everything I need. It is cream based but I haven't found it to be too heavy. Working FT and having 2 littles, I just don't have time to use multiple products.

Seconding going to Sephora and asking for a makeover - you can even book on their site! I wear ZERO make up so did this last year, the option I chose was like a 45 minute session with the obligation to spend $50 on product or buy a $50 gift card. I told the woman exactly what I wanted to learn / accomplish and she taught me the basics and tried a bunch of products out. It was amazing and I feel like such a grown ass woman now ha.

I’m a huge fan of Smashbox BB Water Foundation. Ulta and Macy’s for sure carry it and you can test it out on your own or with help. To get the right color I mix two shades. The foundation is nice and lightweight.

I hate heavy feeling foundation and love juice beauty foundation. It feels amazing, smells like food (it's coconut based instead of silicone) and wears really well. They have it at ulta if you want to check it out

I like to go to a place like Sephora or Ulta that has several brands and ask for a mini makeover. Tell them what your issues are and they will find the right make up for you.

I do an apricot cover stick, a yellow toned concealer on top of that and then a yellow based foundation (I use sticks, liquid and powder depending on my mood, season, event, etc) and I blend using one of those toothbrush style brushes (Artis).

I use a concealer stick for my dark eye circles (thank you genetics), and Bare Minerals powder foundation. It is light, helps with my semi oily skin, and smooths everything out.

I love IT cosmetics cc+ cream. Even my husband noticed a difference the first time I tried a sample, made my skin look so much better. (They sell at Sephora which means you can ask for a sample to take home! Also ulta and other places sell it.) It’s pretty light feeling on, to me. It does go on best if you are moisturized and exfoliate occasionally ... good things for me to do anyway. I do also wear concealer for dark under eyes and finish with a light powder to set and get a matte finish.

@snarkybiochemist: I also cannot stand the feel of foundations. I've had very good luck with BB creams- Garnier's is my absolute favorite and Neutrogena's is good. But after hours of wear, they smell like chemicals and I don't love it. All makeup does but I'm anal. They definitely make my skin look smoother and dewy-er and are nice for evening out skintone and such. I never had luck with powder.

So I have never been much of a make-up wearer, a little in high school when my skin was on the unhappy side (never anything terrible just scattered pimples) and various levels of stage make-up for dance and theater. I got lazy in college and grad school and basically now at 30 I only wear make-up for really special occasions and then its full on foundation, blush, eyes, lipstick. I can do a pretty decent basic make-up and have no need for super contoured fancy stuff but I'm thinking I would like to start wearing make-up more regularly, help even out my skin which thanks PCOS still breaks out fairly regularly and can be prone to random redness but I hate the feel of most foundations. Do I go with concealer and a powder? A really light tinted moisturizer? Something else that I am totally unaware of because I haven't ever paid much attention to make-up? Help
