@misolee: DH leaves his pillows under the covers in the middle of the bed which is so annoying. I don’t mind being the one to pull the covers up nearly every day, but don’t make me go rooting around for your pillows first. And definitely don’t toss your robe and dirty clothes on top of the unmade bed with you pillows under the covers in the middle of the bed.

I like to straighten up my bed and all the kids bed. But we don't use fancy pillows (just two) or flat sheets...just comforters so i'ts super easy to do.

My biggest pet peeve is when my husband takes all the pillows, puts it on the floor when he sleeps (which he can do what he wants), but then leaves it on the floor in the mornings. I'm like just put it back

We also use separate blankets (before DH always managed to steal the whole thing from me in his sleep). And we use soft fuzzy throws that are fairly small (super easy to wash frequently!), so they wouldn't even cover our king size bed. I'm a neat freak in general - dh is the opposite - but I've never cared a bit about the bed. I like our arrangement now.

We don't make the bed. DH and I use separate covers (I like to cocoon while I sleep, which makes me a total blanket hog), so even if we do pull up our blankets, it is not "made". DH is more likely to neaten up his side of the bed than I am, but that is mostly to keep the dog from laying on his pillow. :silly:

The first thing I do when we get to a hotel is totally unmake the bed - I cannot stand tucked in blankets - so I really don't see any point in making and then fully unmaking my bed at home every day.

We only recently got in the habit of making the bed and both seem to feel equally good about it. In our case, I’m the major blanket hog and get all twisted up in it. I go to bed before DH and he would always wake me up trying to get some cover back. Now we have separate duvets and it is AMAZING! Though if we go too long without making the bed, they both become mine again and the problem returns- hence the start of the bed making habit

I make the bed everyday. Sometimes first thing in the morning, sometimes mid day, and sometimes right before bed. I can't get in the bed to sleep until everything has been situated, even if that means doing it as I am getting ready for bed. I prefer to make it in the morning but DH sometimes gets up later and then it takes me a while to get to it. But like a few others we long ago gave up on decorative pillows or extra things, so it's quick.

@Sams Mom: same, same, same. I don't even understand how DH can mess everything up so much. But drunk octopus sounds like the perfect description.

I have to have the bed made. Even if we’re putting on clean sheets and then going to bed I’ll fully make the bed, tucking everything in, pulling the duvet up, so it looks nice after I’ve brushed my teeth and am ready to climb in. My husband does not care in the slightest but he does it because it’s important to me, although I’m always coming behind him redoing it because he doesn’t take enough care for my taste.

We both make the bed every single day, now. I usually make our master bed, and DH does the kids' bed.

But funnily enough, neither of us made the bed before we had kids and had a nanny. Since someone was coming into our home every day, we realized we had to be more tidy, so we started doing it 2.5 years ago and now it's ingrained habit.

Me. By far. It honestly doesn’t cross my mind to not make the bed- of course I would! But I was raised in a very tidy and organized house, and my house always feels messy because of it. Objectively, it’s not, and the beds are always made :)

I can’t handle life with an unmade bed. It’s my main weirdo thing. I go into a weird hoarder-panic mode and think that if I leave the bed unmade my life will quickly slide into chaos. It’s 100% illogical but an unmade bed basically doesn’t exist in my house (though I don’t make my kids’ beds unless someone is coming over).

My husband only makes the bed because he knows I’m crazy about the bed. I’d honestly never expect him to make the bed and 99% of the time he’s out of bed before me so it’s not an issue.

I don’t fully make the bed like arranging the pillows, but I straighten the covers and make sure the sheets are straight and the pillows are generally at the head of the bed. DH would never bother, then he tosses clothes or his robe on top of the unmade bed, with his pillow for between his knees twisted up under the covers.

And I’m the same as a few of you- when he is away all I have to do is fold up my corner and it’s fine. I toss and turn a lot at night but the bed stays fine. I always make a point to wash the sheets at the start of the week he is away so it feels like a fresh bed for so much longer.

@Sams Mom: 😂 great visual. And it’s the same way for us. My husband frequently sleeps on the couch because he snores and I kick him out. So when it’s just me, it’s already neat in the morning!

It basically can't happen at our house. My husband works nights, so by the time I get up and leave for the day, he's back in it within a couple hours.

Before he was on nights he would try to make it on the weekends. I don't really care so much about how it looks since no one goes in our bedroom but us. The funny thing is, my husband is the flailer, I can get into a perfectly made bed, and the next morning be able to pull the blankets back into place and that's it. He gets up in the morning and it looks like a drunk octopus lost it's keys in the bed.

The bed didn’t start getting made until the house was put up for sale and we had showings. I like the way it looks all made up, but it’s a PITA to do each morning and clear off at night.

We tend to unofficially alternate days, but one of us always makes it, even on weekends. It's been a habitual way to start the day ever since college, and I like the ritual of it, the neatness, the sense of accomplishing something small even on days when everything else might turn to crap.

I put that I do, but that’s only because DH doesn’t care AT. ALL. He practically mutilates the covers and leaves them all jumbled up. I usually try to just pull them up so they’re straight and so the cat can’t get underneath (he loves to make a nest and get his fur everywhere at every opportunity and doesn’t care a bit that he’s not allowed under the covers). I gave up on decorative sham/throw pillows and such a long time ago, they spent most of the time on the floor gathering dust. So even I get the bed looking neat, it’s not “made” in any real aesthetic sense.

I’ve been off the past few days for various reasons and realized I don’t care about making the bed and never really did until I met my husband! I love the way it looks when it’s made but I don’t want to actually make it. Which is funny because I’m a neat freak about everything else!
Who’s more adamit about making the bed in your house?
