I knew he'd say Dada first - it's easier for babies to say! But I was still annoyed when he said Dada early on and then didn't say Mama for MONTHS (and still rarely says it)!

I didn't really care, I was just excited to hear any word from him! He says dada allllll the time now, no other words so far.

@swurlygurl: same boat. it helps that the first and only word he has said so far is "uh oh". so either mama or dada would be welcome at this point (13.5 months).

Of course I wanted Mama first. She said Dada first. I called her a traitor. I mean I am with her every day, while he is gone Mon-Thurs, and I got the shaft!

Pfff, 13.5 months and still neither. At this point I just want her to say either! I figure it will be 'Dada' first, because I say it all the time, but he rarely talks to her about me

I think Dada is the most common first word... babies hear their moms say it all the time! DD said Dada pretty early and in always in reference to DH. She said Mama for about 3 weeks... and then started calling me by my first name. Now she says mama to mean "more" - basically because she associates me with food. It's awesome all around. :silly:

My baby girl up until recently was 100% certain I was papa. Like, she KNEW it with all her being. So it actually might have hurt my husband's feelings more, because she would be all like, "papa papa!" and he'd go to pick her up and she'd make it clear she was talking about the OTHER papa. After much insisting she's starting to catch on.

I knew she'd say dada first because I'm home with her all day and we talk about dada, like when we hear him pull in the driveway, etc.
It makes me happy :) she can be pretty clingy to me when she's tired or hurt, and I know it makes him feel good to hear her say it when he gets home, or when she sees him in the morning.

Did you have a preference who your LO called first (mama vs dada)? If you did, were you disappointed when s/he called the other person first?
