No problem! DS never took to formulas, he'd drink some and then projectile vomit within a few hours. After 3 different types of formula, we gave up on it.

When he was close to one we took him in for allergy testing and unsurprisingly he was allergic to milk. Milk in baked goods, any dairy anything would cause diarrhea and contact with milk, cheese, yogurt etc would cause hives that would be there for about an hour. Then they'd fade. So we never treated the hives because they'd fade on their own pretty fast.

If the hives fade pretty quickly, I'd just take note of what it could be but not worry too much about it.

Hope that helps!

@Mrs. Pen: both my kiddos have mild, occasionally moderate, eczema. However DS does not have any allergies that we know of. So hopefully Dd doesn't have any either. But thanks for sharing about your niece and nephew. And def good to know that it affects behavior too.

The hives were completely gone this morning.

I gave her that same flavor pouch for lunch and no reaction.

So now here's to hoping it wasn't the milk in the smoothie nor the sesame/tahini in the hummus.

My lo doesn't have allergies, but I've learned a lot about it because both my niece and nephew have allergies.
They were both having severe eczema, it was painful and angry. My sister couldn't figure out what was causing it. Took them in for allergy testing and discovered they're allergic to egg whites, gluten, and also a mild dairy allergy.
She just took them back for retesting- the egg allergy is worsened, but the dairy allergy actually improved so she's been reintroducing small amounts.
Once she eliminated the egg whites and gluten, they symptoms immediately improved. She also noticed that if her son has egg whites/gluten, not only does he get eczema but his behavior is awful.

I would recommend taking her in for testing! Good luck- I hope the hives resolve soon!

@codeitall: urgent care first mentioned that maybe she was allergic to something she sat on like grass but she didn't sit on anything different. But that's good to know about the cheap metal.

She didn't spill any smoothie and she didn't have diarrhea. But she could have maybe dropped some hummus toast on her highchair.

Is your son allergic to all products that contain milk or just milk in its orig form? Did he ever have formula and have a reaction? And do you ever treat the hives with anything or just wait for them to fade on their own?

Sorry for the million questions. Thanks.

My son has a milk allergy. There are two results, diarrhea if he ingests any, and hives anywhere his skin comes in contact with it. The hives are instant but fade within an hour like you describe.

We've also discovered he has some allergy to a cheap metal or epoxy finish after he broke out into hives repeatedly after contact with an Ikea metal bar and a cheap lantern we have. Also instant, but fade within the hour.

I don't know about vaccine ingredient allergies but my understanding is the reaction to mmr would be delayed 7-10 days.

I think if this is the only symptom you might have to either a) get an allergy test or b) wait it out and try those foods again to rule out allergy.

Hope it hasn't gotten any worse.

I need to be educated on food allergies since Dd might (but hopefully not) have some food allergies. Please give me all the basics about your Los food allergies. Most importantly what type of reaction, how long does it last, how do you treat?

Dd is newly 1. Today she got her MMR and chicken pox vaccines. I thought maybe it was a reaction to the vaccines but urgent care Dr thinks it might be food allergy.

She only had the hives on the back of one thigh though. And the hives started to disappear within an hour. Urgent care also said her breathing and everything was normal so not anaphylactic?

So here are the possibilities:
She drank some of DS smoothie which had milk, but she's had formula before and never reacted.
She had some hummus spread on bread but she's had bites of the same type of hummus before.
She had a new flavor pouch which had apricot but I though she's had apricots before but really can't remember.

No hives anywhere else except back of thigh.
Her vaccines were administered one in each arm.
