@NovBaby1112: that is still up in the air! i haven't actually given him any dairy/soy directly and pedi wants to wait until he is about 18mo to introduce. I think I'd like to trial soy at the end of the summer to see how that goes. I am not in a rush though - we're happy and healthy so I don't want to mess with a good thing.

@Maysprout: awww well the baby thing is a good reason to tell your LO, thats awesome that she gets it at 2 years old!

@brownie: i honestly have no clue if i even want to wean at 1 year, but i guess i just want to know my options...only time will tell how i will feel come that year mark. part of my would love to have my body back before getting pregnant again, but the other part really enjoys nursing her

@kml636: thats awesome she loves it now! i hope that happens here...i did notice she likes picking up food and eating it, so maybe she just isnt a puree food baby? we might try some BLW and see if she prefers that

@chopsuey119: LOL! i can totally see my DD being like that too. she's a total milk addict!!

@littlebittyhouse: thats great he loves solids now...so when do you find out if he outgrows milk or soy?

I have a boob monster - 11mo and 5/6x a day 2ish times overnight - he didn't love solids until he was about 10mo. He now loves solids but hasn't cut back on the nursing. He is MSPI so I just go with it. Once he outgrows either milk or soy I will most likely stop pumping during the day and just on demand at home.

I don't have any advice because I'm the mom who still nurses her almost 27 month old. Eek! :P :) DS looks like he's on the same nursing track. I'll let you know when I figure it out!

I was starting to worry because L spit out all solids... but then it's like one day she just got it. Now she likes eating, which is a relief because I was starting to stress about it. So just keep trying, try to make her wait 3 hours between nursing sessions, too...

@NovBaby1112: My son would still want to nurse. I was completely over it. But he is MSPI and needed it until he was 20 months old (grew out of Milk still avoids Soy) and I figured I made it that far we should go for 2 years.

The only real advice I have is go as long as YOU and your baby want to go. I was getting really miserable by the end of it.

We did what @T.H.O.U. did. For us don't ask, don't refuse helped a bit but she asks plenty

So I stopped nursing when we were out and it probably would have gone quicker if I followed that up with other limits, once she learned them she usually accepted them.

Sometimes offering food when she asked to nurse helped. But what's finally helped is me being pregnant and not making much milk and telling her that baby needs the milk now. She just turned 2 so I think she's ready and nursing while pregnant just is not pleasant for me so I'm ready. She still asks occasionally though but usually accepts that baby needs the milk now.

@NovBaby1112: Me too! Part of me hopes that my daughter will decide to quit one day, because I'd like to do another round of fertility treatment to have another child. But the thought breaks my heart, honestly. I love nursing her. And she's an addict, so it's just a pipe dream, anyway.

@NovBaby1112: she definitely eats more solids than she did then. we started juuuust shy of 6 months, but started with one 2-oz meal a day, then slowly upped to one 4-oz meal, then two meals, and now she eats 3 meals a day with a snack thrown in somewhere. definitely was a work in progress! but i remember having a slight breakdown at the same time wondering when I'd ever get my boobs back.

@plantains: that's reassuring, I hope she starts to like purees soon. i guess it doesn't have to be an all or nothing thing- i wouldn't mind doing a morning session and night session either.

@brownie: i can totally see my LO wanting to nurse until 2...that gradual method makes sense though

@sarac: lol, i hope she is ready to quit when i am, but we will see!

@sorrycharlie: that's good to hear, maybe it will slow down for us too around that age and she will hopefully be eating more solids by then...

@anbanan15: funny how some babies just wake up one day and never ask for it again! makes it easier on you i'm sure

DS self weaned at 21 months. He was a total boob monster and I was going to wait until he was 2 to start actually weaning, but he just didn't nurse to sleep one night and never asked for it again! At the time he weaned he was still nursing 4-5 times a day and 2-5+ at night, so still very much full time at that age. I never thought something like that would happen. He always needed to nurse to sleep. We got ~12 oz of breastmilk a day until he was 2.

Btw, DS is a terrible solids eater! He hardly eats most days, tbh. He does get supplemented with a nutritional supplement (toddler formula) for children 1+ because of his lack of solids and limited diet due to food allergies (FPIES).

I was afraid of this too! But at almost 9 months, my LO has definitely slowed down with nursing. We nurse about two times overnight (down from 4-5 just last week!) and 5ish times during her awake hours (6-6:30), about every 3.5-4 hours.

My nursaholic is still going strong at 21 months. She was immediately interested in food, but never lost interest in nursing. I've done decently with cutting down the frequency, but I think she'll nurse until 5 if I don't cut her off at some point. You may get to that point yourself, if she's not interested in quitting on her own.

I weaned at 2 years old and my son still tries to go for the it at 3 months after weaning. He does love his solids though so that is different. The first thing I did was drop his lunch time nursing. I WOH so I was able to just stop going to his daycare. Then I dropped the before bed nurse again this was easy because I worked most nights and I just didn't do it. For about 2 months he was nursing at 5 pm and 5 am. This worked for us for a while. Then I just stopped offering if he didn't ask (for the 5 pm) and then just went cold turkey the day after his 2nd birthday party.

My DD wasn't a fan of solids initially, she still doesn't really like finger foods and she is never one to turn down a boob. She is turning 1 in a couple of days and I will probably start weaning her soon. Like you at teh 7 month mark I was kinda worried but around 8 months she started eating waaay more of her purees which helped a lot.

Your DD will be fine. I'm gradually moving to the don't ask don't offer system for daytime feeds. I will leave morning and night as they are for now.

@T.H.O.U.: that makes sense, so it sounds like it was gradual for you...i like that , don't offer don't refuse idea...thanks for sharing!

LO was a boob monster until 11 months, then it was like a switch flipped. She would nurse if I offered, but she gradually stopped asking for it. By 1 year we were down to 2-3 feeding a day, and a few weeks later down to one. Super easy!

Once we got her onto cows milk, we started with don't offer, don't refuse. Meaning, make her ask for it either with words or sign language, etc.

Then we started telling her that it was only at home, meaning I would not nurse in public any more. She seemed to understand that and there were enough distractions when we were out and about to get her past it.

Then we started telling her it was only for bedtime. I would offer to spend quiet time with her in others ways (like sitting down to read books etc) so she still felt the bond and connections.

Just thinking ahead here...

My LO has been a nursaholic milk machine since she was born lol. She is a little over 7 months and is still nursing about 10x a day and not really interested in many solids. Which her ped and I are fine with because she is still gaining and is in the 90th percentile for height and weight. However, I am just thinking ahead here- I kind of want to wean around the year mark and then just switch to cow's milk, but if she is still nursing so frequently I imagine this won't work. I guess I am just getting a little worried- like what if she NEVER starts to like solids or real food, what if she needs me to nurse her for the rest of her life??! half kidding, but you know what i mean...
