Yup, I agree with @sometimesshesings:

Helpher.org is a good site.

My OB said to go to the hospital of you can't keep any fluids down.
I went to the hospital twice at 8 weeks for two days and at 12 weeks for 4 days. Each time, I used the pharmacy to customize a treatment regiment for me. I also worked with a nutritionist to make sure I was eating and staying away from certain foods.
HG is serious, so don't feel bad if you need to call your OB.
Also, although, you are throwing up and losing weight, you aren't doing any direct harm to your baby. Your body will take what it needs from you for the baby, but you might not be getting what you need. (I'm not a doctor but I believe that is what I heard and read. I was concerned about my lack of weight gain but my Dr said my babies were doing well so she was not concerned.)

Oh, yeah, I agree that somethings people would suggest what worked for them but would not work for me. There was a period that a fountain soda from McDonalds (specifically, a coke) is the only thing that I could drink. Pre-pregnancy, I might have a sip of coke. Oh, canned coke was way different from fountain coke. I think it was too much carbonation.
Oh, some of the meds given by your doctor are class C and D drugs. My OB was more concerned about class X and Z drugs where birth defects are more common.
Oh, Zofran has been given for decades for pregnant woman. My OB considers it safe. You'll start to worry when you see TV commercials on the birth defects of people on zofran. I asked my OB about it and she said she's given it to patients for years. I'm in the hospital now on bed rest and I was feeling nauseous and was hoping I could get back on the Scolcalamine (sp?) patch that I was on until I was 24 weeks and she said no. That the only meds she would approve was zofran. I had issues with taking oral meds because the taste of the med would make me throw up, but it would also get me constipated. Which is why I was given the patch behind my ears. Oh, I did have to take zofran & Reglan on top of my patch if it was really bad. Oh, my pill adversion was so bad, I had to cover my pills in fruit roll up, so I wouldn't taste it. Then used Apple sauce to swallow it. There was a period where taking pills with root beer hid the taste of pills.
Oh, I admit that with my pill adversion, I had to stop taking my prenatals. My OB knew this and said to take it when I could.

Helpher.org, which is run by an advocacy group for HG sufferers, is a great resource. Reading other people's stories helped me feel less alone.

My number one tip would be to not hesitate to visit the hospital for IV fluids if she's having trouble drinking. I felt so much better each time I did that, but I was always hesitant to go because it made me feel so pathetic. I also kept wondering if I was overreacting. Hospital visits just seemed so extreme! But the fluids made such a difference both physically and mentally, and the nurses always confirmed that I was doing the right thing.

I found other people's tips about diet not particularly helpful. It's really hard to eat or drink anything at all, so I would suggest going with anything that sounds remotely appetizing, even if it's Coke and pie.

Not for me- for a friend

I have a good friend who is 10 weeks along in her second pregnancy and has HG. She is really struggling and could use some help.

I didn't have HG, but I did have really bad all day sickness for 18 weeks. I've given her all the tips I have, but I'm wondering if there are other HG specific resources or advice to which I could direct her.

So, what would you tell someone newly diagnosed with HG? What would you have like to hear?

Thanks
