I had one in my mid-twenties after having a (benign) lump removed. I was told that they don't recommend it until age 40 or 10 years before your mom was diagnosed. Before 40, our breast tissue is too dense for it to be very effective.

I think your age at first mammogram depends a lot on your personal health history and family history - especially the age your mom had breast cancer (if applicable). My mom had breast cancer in her early 50's and I'm suppose to start having mammograms in my late 30's, due to my mom's history and other family history of breast cancer.

29, but I have family history on both sides plus my mother was very young when she had breast cancer (40). My dr advised getting a baseline exam before getting pregnant-- I had a mammogram, breast ultrasound, and then MRI bc my tissue was dense all right before conceiving

I have very fibrous breast tissue and often feel lumps. I had several ultrasounds of my breast tissue starting at 23 and had my first mammogram at 30 bc my doc just wanted to make sure they weren't missing anything.

At what age did you have your first mammogram? Is 35 too young?
