@petitenoisette: There IS! I know this because I currently have that cold, and after 10 days of sleeping on an extra pillow with Vick’s and hot water next to my bed and still spending hours awake with coughing fits I gave in and went to the walk-in clinic, where they gave prescription-strength cough suppressant and last night I slept all the way through the night. Send him to a doctor next time.

@Truth Bombs: ugh this! My DH is actually pretty good about not doing the man cold thing but he gets a cold at least once a year where he gets a terrible cough and has coughing fits that keep him up half the night. This has happened to him his whole life but I would like him to go to the doctor JUST ONCE about it to see if there is anything they can do to help.

@GoGoSnoGirl: yup I have little empathy too, I think because I am being selfish and thinking more of how it’s going to affect me if he can’t help as much with our kid. I try very hard to not say anything though bc he is much more empathetic with me when I’m sick.

Yeah mine finally caught a cold after DS and I had one for like 2 months nonstop. As soon as I’d feel a little better he’d bring another home from school.
The first one I caught literally the night before DH left for a guys weekend and then a week later he went to London for work for a week. And I’m pregnant. With a 3yo. He just said casually “oh that sucks”.
But when he finally caught it after 2 months of my misery (and continuing on with life) he literally moaned nonstop for 3 days and said no less than 20 times a day “I don’t feel good” and would retreat to the bedroom. MURDAHHHHH.

I just saw this a couple of days ago and sent to my sister.

Well, I'm glad to know I'm not alone. :wink:
I kinda lost it on DH yesterday, unfortunately, because he's just been sleeping in & moping around unable to think or have meaningful conversations. We really needed to use our vacation time between the holidays to get some personal finance stuff decided & now we have hardly any time left. It makes me ragey when he's sick, which is so counter to my typical empathetic style. I feel kind of bad about that.

Oh man, I'm the one that gets sick all the time out of the two of us, but when I'm sick--which is constantly--I'm making doctor appointments, taking meds, and generally still forcing myself to function. Like DH will have to take on more night wakings so I can get some rest but everything else during daylight hours remains as normal wen I'm sick. DH gets sick less often but he also refuses to take meds or go to the doctor so then he can't function. He's had the legit flu but refuses to go to the doctor until it's too late for tamiflu to be effective. It drives me nuts. Or he'll have headaches and refuse to do anything except just moan and say he needs to go to bed at 7pm (leaving all bedtime duties to me).

Meanwhile, I have two autoimmune diseases and a bad immune system in general and while he's got a headache, I'm getting strep and mono and full body rashes and muscle/joint pain and take several meds to manage it all and they have various side effects, but I'm still doing everything. :shocked:

My issue with my husband is the the refusal to DO anything about the sickness. Take some medicine! Go to the doctor! Until you do those things and still feel bad, I don’t want to hear about it.

Ugh my DH sucks when he is sick

But a couple months ago DS had a fever (he's 3.5) and was so sucky so I was carrying around spoiling him. And said to DH "ah... this is how the man cold starts. Wayyyy to much sympathy from their mom".

@erinbaderin: my DH also gets a a"scratchy throat" 🙄

It drives me totally insane. DH doesn’t get sick very often but when he does he is like down for the count. And I get mad because usually he’s got whatever I have had for weeks and have been going on with my life.

Last Christmas the whole family got hit with a stomach bug, to varying degrees. I had it very mild but washed my hands a million times and wouldn’t handle food and took all sorts of precautions because we had guests. DH Laos across the kitchen table moaning and breathing his germs everywhere while his mom worried that he got so sick because he’s pushing himself too hard all the time. I got so mad at everyone!

My husband almost never gets sick, which is lucky for him because I’m so unsympathetic when he does - it’s terrible. But I get colds all the time and I’ll be on the couch miserable with a cold and he’ll go “I think I’m getting sick too - my throat is a little scratchy.” It makes me want to murder him.

My DH's immune system is horrible, he gets sick at least once every two months, and I. Cannot. Deal. Especially since he's not good about staying consistent on his daily vitamins and asthma meds, or taking a sick day. He won't take off work for almost ANY reason, but he will lay on the couch for hours and hours when sick.... I'm like, dude, call out of work, rest during the day, I need you at night when I come home from work! Also he needs about 9 hours of sleep a night REGULARLY so when he's sick, it ups to 10-12 and he's just the walking-dead for a couple weeks.

I happened to see this article when it came out & chuckled thinking "Well, maybe there's something to that!" But just a few weeks later & I've lost my sympathy. DH is in full man cold misery & it's driving me nuts. Do you deal with this in your house too? 😦
