Therapy! I needed someone to just talk to and have them reassure me. Pregnancy is scary. Just today at 18w6d I had some cramping and started panicking! It was gas as it turns out... But anxiety doesn't get any easier as things go on, not for me anyway, so I've been journaling and find therapy helpful.

Chiming in to say I understand! Unfortunately I have no tips...it was really hard for me to make it from the positive pregnancy test to the dating ultrasound at just past 8 weeks and I only had it so I could confirm a heartbeat. I found out at 4 weeks so that month was horrible. I got by, and by got by I mean I coasted until my first midwife appointment at 10 weeks, by essentially pretending it wasn't happening. That's probably not the best idea, but I was so anxious about it and thinking about all the bad things that I couldn't talk about it. My husband and I didn't talk about the baby until 16 weeks when we got a good listen on the doppler at the midwife. So 3 months of denial was my technique I guess, which was weird because I thought I would be ecstatic all the time. Anxiety does weird things to you though.

It's too early for you to use your doppler or for the doctor to. Don't worry yourself by trying to. I think they say after 12 weeks a professional should be able to find it. My midwife found it for literally 1 second at just before 12 weeks and then a bit easier at 16 weeks.

So my only advice is talk to someone, at least one person if you want to. Take the advice of people saying use the mantra "today I am pregnant" and countdown to appointments, that made it easier for me. Find something to distract yourself from thinking about your pregnancy.

I had a few weeks of no symptoms which makes you feel really uncomfortable.

Hang in there! I am nearing the third trimester and the anxiety comes and goes, but is far less now than it was in the beginning for me.

Only 4 weeks until you get to see your little one! I didn't do that 12 week scan...next time I will for my sanity. I used my doppler at 16 weeks-18 weeks and then sent it back.

Oh, also, all over the internet it says once you hear/see a heartbeat it makes it far more likely everything is going to stay good. :)

@ladybee: You'll be able to find it in another few weeks, probably. That really helped me not to stress out during my first pregnancy.

I can commiserate. I also have issues with anxiety. The usual cognitive behavior therapy exercises have worked well for me -- writing out what you are afraid of, what evidence there is for this outcome happening, how likely it is, what evidence there is for it not occurring and how likely that is.

I eventually just had to decide that right NOW I am pregnant, and I might as well enjoy that. If something bad happens, I can deal with it then. There's no sense ruining such a happy time with "what ifs". For the most part this has worked well for me, and I have really loved being pregnant so far.

Hugs  I have been there too. There is no really easy way to manage it. I tried to celebrate the gains and keep myself occupied between appointments. Even then I still worried but it felt more manageable. Is there anyway you can get a sooner appointment? When I got my bfp I had two weeks of getting betas then ultrasounds during weeks 6, 8, 10. It helped me to have frequent appointments as it provided more reassurance. I think it is too soon for you to hear the heartbeat on the doppler though. Hang in there! I am sure everything will be fine!

@ladybee: Sorry I don't remember how soon the heartbeat can be heard with the Doppler. I only remember one particular crazy episode of anxiety ~16 wks before we went on a cruise and I know I used the Doppler then but I don't remember if that was the earliest.

As for symptoms disappearing, mine randomly disappeared ~10 wks and I freaked out too but my ob said not to overthink it. He said the presence of symptoms or lack of symptoms does not have anything to do with a healthy baby/pregnancy.

Hang in there.

@iluvboba637: I had a mc as well so I know that adds to it. I have a Doppler, how soon can you hear heartbeat?

@runnerd: I hate being crazy. It's just out of my control. I'm so emotional and snotty. My symptoms leaving is really freaking me out.

Sorry I don't have a lot of tips, just wanted to commiserate as I too am a very anxious person and i was exactly like you during my first trimester after an mc.

One thing that helped me a bit was buying a Doppler (is that what it's called?) and whenever I was extremely anxious, hearing baby's heartbeat between long stretches until the next on appt and knowing he was fine helped.

Going on evening walks around the neighborhood also helped me relax a bit.

I will admit, I'm an anxious person naturally. I've been medicated for it in the past.
I'm having a very hard time keeping my anxiety under control during the first trimester. I saw baby at 7w5d and it had a strong heartbeat. But somehow this has only made my anxiety worse. I keep thinking of the heartbreak of going to my 12 week appointment and there not being a heartbeat. Then randomly Saturday my symptoms all disappeared.

Any tips on managing anxiety or fear during this time? :bummed:
