I've read tha anxiety stems from not knowing what to do/how to do things, so I would talk to her about what can we do when things hurt? I would also down play it a bit and not make it seem like a big deal. Shots are just a part of life

We talk a lot about shots around here.
I focus on how shots really hurt but they keep us safe. Shots make sure we don't get red spots on our fasces, that our legs will always work, that there won't be any itchy dots. Simplifying the diseases they prevent.
My LO likes a little bit of fear (that sounds weird - not like I'm scaring her but she likes knowing about scary things... witches & vampires are a big interest for her) so she responds to"if we're not careful..." "If we don't get out shots..."

There is a Daniel Tiger episode about being scared. One part is getting a shot at Dr. Anna's and the other part is a loud thunderstorm. It's a different episode than the doctor one.

@avivoca - yes, i'll have to dig the doctor's set out

I'll also look up the DT episode, though I don't think he gets a shot in it. I'll also just keep talking to her about it, and I've promised we'll go for ice cream after.

Does she have a doctor's set at home? H really loves playing with hers and it's helped her with her fear of the doctor.

My LO just turned two, but we have been reading books about going to the dentist and doctor. I talk to him about what's going to happen. He also really enjoys the Daniel Tiger game that @Anagram: mentioned. I try to do something fun afterwards. He had his well check yesterday and I took him to DD for a donut afterwards.

My LO is much younger so I don't know if this would work, but watching shows about going to the doctor (Daniel tiger has one about a check up and one about a shot, but maybe that's too young for your LO) and reading books about it really helped. She now gets super excited about going to the dentist or the doctor and keeps asking when she can go back. The Usborne Going to the Dentist and Going to the Doctor books are really good.

There is a Daniel Tiger game you can download and an episode about going to the doctor--you could have her play the game and watch the episode a few times?

I'm not sure. She's anxious about doctor visits and dentist visits right now. She turned 4 last week and has her checkup Friday and dentist appointment next week. I'm just preparing DH for a big ol freak out session.

DD is turning 4 in a couple weeks and has started asking if she'll get shots at her next doctor's appointment. She's getting anxious about them and is already scared of them. Any tips on how to manage her anxiety leading up to the doctor's appointment?
