@NovBaby1112: Thanks for the update. I'll go for my scan next week and will be 33w7d at that point. Fingers crossed.

@HyattsMom: I'm 34 weeks now and so far he is right on track growth wise! I had an ultrasound at 32 weeks and he was 4 lbs, about 32 percentile and they noticed that the cord moved more towards the center, which is good, rather than towards the edge. I was freaking out first when I found out but no issues thus far! They will just keep an eye on my growth the next few weeks and do weekly NSTs

@HyattsMom: try not to worry and definitely don't google! My OB said its a variation of normal and most of the time they don't discover it until the baby is born. My marginal cord insertion baby was 7lb 10oz at birth and a-okay :)

@HyattsMom: I had a healthy baby boy 2 weeks ago with no issues from the marginal cord insertion! I had several growth scans leading up to his birth but not because of that issue (my DD was small/had possible IUGR). Hopefully it will be a non issue for you too!

@abmamma @NovBaby1112: Any updates on this?

I had a marginal cord insertion noted at one of my earlier u/s (20wks?) but the OB wasn't too concerned. Just about at 33 weeks now and the OB brought it up again today to have another u/s next week to make sure everything is on track. The only major complication my doctor noted was potential for low foetal growth, but all of my other measurements are on track. Dr. Google is definitely scary, and there are some serious horror stories out there that could easily freak me out. Definitely going to have a laundry list of questions for the doctor at my next appt. in 2 weeks to make sure all is well. Going into the home stretch now definitely makes it all a little scarier, so just trying to remain positive and ask questions.

@NovBaby1112: They found this at my anatomy scan as well. I have my u/s done a MFM center and the dr said that it wasn't anything to be too concerned about normally. I did have some growth restriction concerns with my last pregnancy (although did not have a marginal cord insertion then!) so they brought me back for a growth scan last week at 24 weeks and I'll go back again around 34 weeks. But she said this was not the norm and they were primarily doing it to be extra proactive because of the concerns last time around. Last week baby boy was measuring a couple days ahead and in the 50th percentile for most things -- so far, so good. I was pretty worried about it after the 20 week scan but sounds like it is not as worrisome as Dr. Google makes it sound!

@turkeylurkey: so happy to hear that! Yes, definitely going to stay off google :) so glad your LO is growing well, thank you for sharing!

@kodybear: that is reassuring! Thank you! Sounds like everything went well and I'm titally fine with extra monitoring as I would rather be overly cautious.

i had this with my second and had no issues. he came out at 38 weeks at 6lb6oz. i did have a bunch of scans during my pregnancy but it was because i also had a short cervix. but they did not seem worried about the marginal cord insertion. my dr said around 36 weeks they would have me do nst's twice a week because of it. everything ended up being fine with my baby!

Yes just had my follow-up 31 week ultrasound. Baby weighed in at 4.1 lbs which is about a lb more than what we needed so we are growing. The high risk doctor released me and wants my regular OB to just check on the weight/growth in 4-6 weeks. I was freaking out at my anatomy scan because I hadn't heard about this. Don't read the internet. Just be patient and wait until your next scan to ask more

@photojane: that's true, I still have my monthly regular doctors appointments where they will measure fundal height. He measured right on track yesterday, but of course Google is scary and I probably shouldn't have read too much into it.

@ninja: thanks for sharing! Glad everything turned out okay :)

I had this with my first DS. They just want to make sure baby is growing well. I had a 32 week ultrasound where they checked growth, and that was all for extra monitoring.

@NovBaby1112: most people don't have any after their anatomy scan, so I think you should be fine to wait until 32 weeks. If your fundal height is measuring small they will do an US before 32 weeks. I think IUGR is the main concern with cord placement abnormalities, and if you're not measuring small, you shouldn't worry! :)

@photojane: thank you for sharing!! that makes me feel better. How many extra US's did you have? My next one is not until 32w and I feel like to that is so long (only 18 w now). How big was your LO when she was born?

I had a cord insertion abnormality with my LO. It was velamentous, not marginal, but the same risks. Neither of us had any complications! The doctor said any complications are very rare. They did a few extra US's to monitor LO's growth, but she was perfect. I wouldn't worry too much!

At my anatomy scan I was told that the cord was attached to the edge of the placenta aka marginal cord insertion. Has anyone else here experienced this? The high risk doctor did not seem concerned, she said she sees it a lot and usually it doesn't cause any problems, but I can't help but worrying.

would love to hear from anyone who has gone through this!
